Peasant Blocking

Post by Telaron »

I have finally gotten around to trying my hand at animating. This is the blocking of the peasant's south attack animation.

Looks reasonable save for a couple of minor issues: first, the head needs to come down during the strike. He'd currently be looking into the air above his target, not at the target itself. Secondly, the top hand needs to stay in the same place on the haft. The motion will come from the movement of his body. Remember that the game can add necessary movement.

You could do with displaying the image right from the base frame ;)

Lots of pillowing, one foot doesn't even move.

:augh: I tried to fix the pillow shading. I also edited the head of the pitchfork in the base-frame.

The shadow's color is off, and I'm in the process of fixing that. I also had a question. What should the opacity/transparency of the shadow be? I thought it was 40%, but the base frame seems to have an opacity of 60%. :?

Making_Shadows_Under_Units. Transparency of 40%/Opacity of 60%. The two are the inverse of one another.

[potentially unhelpful advice from a non artist]
He gets very skinny looking around the waist towards the end of the animation. Something in the shading (on the left side of the image I think), because I don't really get that impression from the blocking.

Alright, I fixed the shadow. I ran into a problem with the team color, but I managed to fix that.

You really need to mimic the base-frame's shading and colors more. It's such an obvious snap back at the end.

Unfortunately, yes it is. I am especially finding that light rim on the hat rather hard to mimic. It's going to take a while. :)

Tsi, I was thinking of maybe updating the base-frame's shading, since none of the animations of the peasant, so far at least, are very complete. Of course, I'm fine if you want stick to the current one. :)

Btw, I hope to have added motion blur by my next version.

The base frame looks better. Match it, in preference to changing it. The main thing you seem to be missing is the brightest level of highlights.

Okay, I re-shaded the first south frame. I tried narrowing the highlights along the rim. Improved any?
