Problems about CJK Image Localization
First, Labels on the maps are too small to write CJK characters clearly.
Second, the characters on the label is a bit difference between CJK maps and Western.
I mean Chinese people usually label a river like this if the river is very long: ('长江' is the name of the river)
长 江 江 长 江
/--------------------| 长 /------------------------------------------------------
----/ \ -------------------/

Re: Problems about CJK Image Localization
You can make the labels whatever the size you want, and repeat a label as needed. In general, the labeling should be made to look natural in Chinese, as if the map was in Chinese to start with, adjusting whatever is necessary to achieve that.
The English original just puts you in the proper context. E.g. it shows that there should be a certain old-times look to the map, so that one should not use some futuristic font for labels, etc.

Thanks. I found a picture about a Chinese map 2000 years ago and I found something same as Wesnoth. Maybe this could help.
