Ruffian Animations.

Post by Major »

I think the title says it all.
The current ruffian has very few animations, has over sixty different colours in it and has a wierd shadow.
Critique welcome, and afterwards, if it is accepted, I can animate it.

Honestly, the base frame remake is not necessary at this point, and none of your heads look as good as the original. If you want to fix the shadow and animate, however, feel free - it's not a commonly used unit, but it does need animations all the same.

It would be easier to animate with fewer colors, so I would still cut down the palette. Keep it just high enough that the change isn't really noticeable.

I would make that thwack bigger. Like the new thug attack animating. A real big thwack. Good to see you trying your hand at animating. Your certainly off to a better start than I was. :D

Your animation is smooth, but he takes only a little step and swings from the wrist. You need to put his whole body into the motion, and exaggerate it a lot. (Like the thug, as Frogger said.)

To rename the thread, just type a new subject.

Thanks, and I'll get to work making him look like he's gonna rupture a muscle.

As he steps forward to attack, his right leg moves unrealistically. It looks as if he is stepping down from a rock or something. The defense animation is great though. (no flaws that I can see) :D

Defence looks fine. Attack is making the typical mistake of only moving the active elements. Take a look at the Thug's animation in mainline, and see if you can't copy the motion.

Indeed. However, each piece moves entirely independently, without any apparent reaction from the rest of the body. Bodies do not work that way.

I don't know how much work you're planning try with the ruffian and other peasants, Major, but you may be able to find some workable bits and pieces in my Woodsman tamperings. I notice that the body is the same for each of these units. I certainly haven't made use of the standing legs in the woodsman animation. I'll upload them, or salvage what you can from the forum, if you're interested that is.

Thanks, I might steal some stuff, but probably not.

EDIT: Here is an improvement. And would any one know why the forums keep logging me out?
It's really annoying, some times I get logged out between the just-logged-in page and the index page. :x

HE-LOOKS-STIFF-LIKE-A-RO-BOT. This has been a problem with a couple of your sprites, but you know how to fix it. Just hope you can do the same thing with animations.
