Ghosts!

Post by kitty »

Finally something new; I just finished the big project for uni that kept my busy during the last weeks. And in order to take a break from drawing all day I decided to do something for Wesnoth again. I chose something rather quick, here is my take at the ghost. While he appears a bit too light on the forums he has lots of fancy transparencies and looks a lot better on the ingame background.

c&c?

I stopped to criticize the others lately when I noticed how many things I have to learn. The ghost looks excellent to me.

You forgot the cigarette from between his fingers. :P

On a more serious note, it looks very material and solid, I would have expected something more ethereal from a ghost.

ETA: OK, I overlooked the "fancy trancparencies" bit, and it indeed looks much better with a background.

This is really great and it kills two birds with one stone as DM needs a good ghost portrait. There's some nice subtle colors going on but I think it might be cool to push the color influence slightly. Just a thought. Trying not to just gush.

Fin version for now, I moved the hand a tad (to get rid of the yawning/smoking impression) and put a bit more colour on the robe.
I'd like to have Jet's opinon on him before commiting since he had a pretty distinct vision for the ghosts.

...wow.

It went from 'that's pretty good' on the white forum to absolutely stunning on a black bg.

Well, you've nailed it as far as I'm concerned. :D This is awesome.

My notes if you're considering any of the others in the tree; these are the few points I actually care about:
- yes, the shadow and nightgaunt have razor-gloves of some sort.
- the shadow must have a "candlejack/scarecrow"-like hood.
- the nightgaunt must have a faceless, featureless metal mask.
- the wraith can have either the skull face or an empty hood; I don't care. Both work.
- the wraith and spectre do have armor, as if they're the ghosts of warriors. The armor can be transparent and partly insubstantial if you want.

I was planning on having a pop at at least the Wraith (based off Captain Swing's awesome sketch), if not the Spectre too, some time over the summer - I'm having a less easy time coming up with sketches for the shadow and nightgaunt - if you wanted to split it that way, i;d be happy with that.

Thanks for the explanations Jetryl! Can somebody please commit this guy?

tsi: I'm fine with you colouring swing's wraith, I'd like to take care of shadow, nightgaunt and spectre over the course of the summer.

The ghost looks totally awesome on the black background. Looks really nice. (it really reminds me of the shades in The Phoenix Requiem)

Looks cool, but how about some slightly more mismatched blades - I envisioned this guy as more of an edward scissorhands than a wolverine, in blade terms.

Hmm, the blade question is mostly one of taste, I think. I like the contrast between the tattered etheral cloth and the polished solid claws - but I understand where you are comming from, too. Perhaps I'll add in some rust or scratches tomorrow.
