Re: Why does the grunt have a cape?
I think the hug might have been a bit too far.
Furthermore for some reason the word buddy looks odd when you post it... It's not that I don't consider us friends it's just that I can't picture you using that word.

Okay, I'm not a hugger, but I would at least do a conciliatory pat.
No, I don't use buddy, but I use bud on occasion.

I think many of you underestimate the awesomeness of the Orcs. Those "blue capes" are actually off dead Merman Hoplites. Black? Decaying flesh and bones from Undead. Green? Drake hides. Red? Yep, dragons.

Reading back over this whole thread again, you just gave me an idea for wesnoth freeze tag via a creative use of the [stone] and [unstone] tags...Turuk wrote: I think I like this tag game.
I've got to stop having new ideas before the old ones are finished or I'll become the flameslash of WML...
@ancestral: So what you're saying is that side 1 is comprised of orcs that only hunt dragons

I think this post and ancestrals were seperated at birthPhilipN wrote:Want to be lucky? If you play as the Dwarves, choose Black as your team color...if you're the Drakes, pick Blue and you probably won't do half-bad in the luck department, but if you Really want good luck please pick the Knalgans and play as black.
(so goes my brother's superstition, which also includes choosing Teal when playing as the elves).
Re: Why does the grunt have a cape?
That would be interesting. You could make it so that one leader has to tag the other leader, and each player can use their units to ZoC the opposing leader/kill off his units so he cannot ZoC your leader to tag you.Gambit wrote:Reading back over this whole thread again, you just gave me an idea for wesnoth freeze tag via a creative use of the [stone] and [unstone] tags...

Just kidding. I won't be that childish.
Or possibly, in Wesnoth, DiD It.

Re: Why does the grunt have a cape?
Wow, so much hullabaloo over some stinkin' capes. My guess was that they wore the capes like cloaks during travel, and used them as blankets while they slept. They come from the frozen north for cryin' out loud. A general purpose garment (colored to mark their clans not unlike a Scotsman's sash and kilt) that also acts as a blanket makes perfect sense.

Re: Why does the grunt have a cape?
I think everyone knows the functions of a cape, people were just curious why it was still wearing it into battle.

Miscellaneous trivia: the concept of clan tartan has been around for less than 200 years. Before that, you just wore whatever pattern you liked. Kilts have been around longer, but not as long as most people think (thanks, Braveheart...).Zachron wrote:(colored to mark their clans not unlike a Scotsman's sash and kilt)

The deliberate use of tartan as heraldry perhaps, but clan, to clan variance in design schemes do have older roots, even if it's simply a result of creative differences between different weavers...thespaceinvader wrote:Miscellaneous trivia: the concept of clan tartan has been around for less than 200 years. And Orcs are fiction, it doesn't have to be old for it to be implemented in fiction.
So in the days of William Wallace, they were still just skirts?
