Thanks To Everyone...

Post by Oglander »

...For making such a fantastic game! I'm a new player who's really enjoying learning the basics as I play through some of the mainline missions. (HttT, aoi, tsg, trow, ttb, l,) and, right now playing through Northern Rebirth!! I am in awe of the work put into the game, and wanted to show my appreciation.

It makes me want to "Give Back" something, so I read "How can I help?" in the FAQ's, and although I'm not very experienced I'm pretty willing. Here is my attempt at some feedback; I plan to update the wiki, (specifically perhaps some of the walkthroughs); and I'm spreading the word about this great game elsewhere (On, and Offline).

My first suggestion would be a specific beginners section in the forum where new players could go to ask "stupid" questions without stigma or the inevitable comments from the elite players, it might attract and retain the casual players. Just an idea.

A question, what are the best/most popular user-made campaigns available, or can someone point out where that info might be?

You probably won't see me posting on a daily basis, I'm pretty comfortable being a "lurker", but if anyone has any other ideas on how some of us with limited development knowledge can give something back to the community let us know.

Oh, and thanks again! :D

You'll go far with that attitude :)

If you want to help with the wiki, you could help me keep the replays section updated.
Watch a replay from here: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6471
And put it in the correct place here: http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Replays

I've some replays which I did not post in the archive (mainly for strategic/luck threads) which you might want to put in the wiki as well. There's one for sure in the horseman thread; I can't remember the others. If I've time I'll post them into the wiki as well, as there's quite some catching up from the replays archive already. :)
Take a breath.

Alright, Sorrow. I'm at work right now, but I'll take a look when i get some time. Thanks. (another great thing about Wesnoth, I put it on a pen drive and I can play it at work when things are quiet :lol2: )

Just one question, if a replay is, say version 1.2, will I be able to view it using 1.4?

Unfortunately, no. Unless if one runs wmllint on it with further modifications. Correct me if I'm wrong on the latter.

Running wmllint on a replay won't help anything, unfortunately.

Yeah. It is a shame that wmllint cannot handle the saved games WML dialect.

wmllint cannot convert replay WML because that still would not account for changes in the engine behavior and/or changes in unit_type stats (which are not saved with the replay).

Ah ok. :(

It's quite funny how such a casual thread transforms itself into a technical one. :P
