Im a Noob Want to learn how to make stuff got few questions
Hi guys and girls , im new to this but just wondering where i go to learn to make units ,factions and campaigns for this great game.
i also have a few other questions ;
1. is it possible to make a more rpg style campaign like for example fire emblem , vandal hearts, final fantasy tactics. if so has any one already done so.
2. how hard is it to learn the coding to make stuff for this game, i already use and have made a few games for rpg maker xp which i enjoyed doing, and would definitly be interested in making whole rpg games for this game.
3. has anyone done an eygptian faction maybe with other factions to do with myths like greek myth , norse myth.
4. is it possible to make units go up many levels and have way more upgrades or classes for example;
with each level a unit gets a bonus to there hp, and damage so that by level say 50 you have a paladin with 245 hp doing 45*2 damage. xp system would have to be changed and so would the healing but it could be useful in making long and interesting rpg campaigns where character building is important and adds feeling to the storyline and making you not want to lose a character like in fire eblem.
As a kid i played a game on the sega mega drive (shining something, cant remember its name lol) and it introdused me into these type of turn based rpg games that i really enjoy so im really interested in making my own game using this great game.
please comment

Thank you all

1. It is possible, secondly, i think someone in this forum is working on this kind of RPG campaigns but are not quite finished yet because it would took a lot of time and effort to do so. You have to taken into the fact that this is a tactical game, not a RPG.
2. That depends on your learning level and your perception of hard. The main method people use to code in wesnoth is WML, it's a very easy to learn coding language, that is compared to C++ and so. If you've know any common coding language such as HTML for an easy starter, you shouldn't find WML hard.
3. I think there is some factions that resembles that, like ones in the imperial era, if i remembered correctly it is somewhat like the roman empire army. And there is far more others you just have to search them in the forums for their threads.
4. Possible, through WML, edit the unit's level, attacking power/resistance, pretty much anything can be edited.
If taking month of time to work on coding languages in wesnoth isn't your thing, try CampGen, it is very much the equal to RPG maker except it is used to make campaigns, the functionality is very limited compared to WML(allows you to code units, campaign/scenarios, and much much more, compared to just the sole function of creating campaigns in CampGen) i don't think there's any progress on CampGen in the last few month nor have i heard any news about it, so i'm assuming it's dead.

although you can use almost any program, but gimp or photoshop is best, like Drake Clasher said. To upload it, include it as an attachment at the bottom of your posts.
Silver Tree... It is turn-based. I guess, you can judge for yourself whether it is tactical or not. Anyway, check it out. It is fun.

1. I don'think so, but there is a unit tree with all the units shown. The only other way you can get sprites for user-made units is to download them through the add-on server.illcwaticando wrote:is silvertree turn based tactical rpg? cause thats what im looking for?

2. Yes, you can post a forum thread about it and upload the files so to let the wise people of the forums to try it out and give you some feedback.
Ask and you shall receive.illcwaticando wrote: 1, is there a list or place where all the user made unit pics are shown?

Approximately like this:
1) make a map;
2) make a PBL file;
3) upload it on the add-on server.
I never done this myself, so I cannot give you more specific instructions. Try downloading some "map pack" to see how exactly the files are put in directories.
