How old are you?

I'm about 37, and my 6 year old son loves playing this game. He doesn't know about the multi player version, although he does click on multi player to get the random games. The campaigns are too hard for him, but he knows how to change the settings in random games to make it easier for him to win a game.
I'm still learning how to play the campaigns, I have played a few multi player games.

Started playing Wesnoth in June 2007 and well done for creating such a great game!
actually many teenagers don't play wesnoth, me being 13(soon 14 in a few week) is just the small groups, still i'm surprised at the numbers of adults playing this game. i always assume that adults can just buy what the want(isn't that the truth?you have a job, earn some cash, go spend it on Xbox and games). i guess adults also playing because they don't have alot of time(as pointed out previously) the only reason i'm only playing because it's a nice alternative to get my mind off things and have some fun. the fact that i don't have a job yet, and allowance is tight also greatly contributed to me playing. and it goes to figure for some other teeangers playing wesnoth as well.what with all the teenagers playing Wesnoth!
evolved around the confined environment, emotions, knowledge and events mixed into my life, mere mortal am i, trying to climb higher up the ladder, time passes, just then i realized, death will part me eventually. - playtom's philosophy
This is often true. (For me personally, $60 is not a large amount of money).playtom wrote:i always assume that adults can just buy what the want(isn't that the truth?you have a job, earn some cash, go spend it on Xbox and games).
However, adults are often less impressed by snazzy graphics, and more impressed by gameplay experience, and in particular often like games with simple rules but interesting and deep dynamics.
For this reason, many adults find games like Wesnoth more fun than the available commercial games.

As Dave said its not about the money but about game play and a friendly competion. My preferences in games like Wesnoth, Strategic Command etc have terrible graphic but are a nice way to spend some time . (Even as an adult 36 with a job) I love good old fashioned board games (Chess, Axis and Allies, Diplomacy, Talisman, Junta, Risk in all variants, Samurai Swords, Britannia, Ring War etc.)
Flashy graphics and realtime games...ughh ..if I look at youtube under HAlO 3 (wanted to see how this game is played) in a video about multiplayer there are usally a zillon trash comments like "THIS nOOB I am supreme commander would kick his bud a trilonnn times argh .... I am the best.. bla bla"
I dont like this kind of trash talk and I associate it with younger immature players.
Unfortunately you see some of this behaviour on Wesnoth MP servers too. Mostly from younger players unfortunately. Usally the same players dont have the staying power to learn from their mistakes.
Just yesterday was a really frustrating day : from 10 games: 8 ended early because players suddenly left without comment usally after losing a few of their units. You can say sorry I surrender it doesnt make sense to go or something like that..
I think if you look at the reliable players in Wesnoth you will find quite a bunch of people from 20-40 years.

Even if I had a bunch of money to spend on games or whatever, I wouldn't buy computer games but rather get a bunch of LEGOs... computer games can be free if you choose the right ones, there's no way I know of yet to get LEGOs without spending something.

Exchanging? You mean... like... giving LEGOs I already have away?Shadow Master wrote:Perhaps exchanging with a friend, relative, etc.

Supposedly out here in Silicon Valley during the late 90s when programmers were recruited desperately with all kinds of perks by companies, there was someone who negotiated to have a stipulation in his contract that his desk be built entirely out of LEGO.turin wrote:there's no way I know of yet to get LEGOs without spending something.
That's a way to do it for 'free'. In a way, anyhow.
I suppose he could have negotiated for more money or something instead of the LEGO desk, so there is an opportunity cost....

Indeed, I'd already heard of that.
I don't know what good a desk made out of LEGOs would be though... the guy requested to have the surface still be bumpy instead of topped with smooth tiles, so he couldn't write on it or anything...

I very rarely write anything on paper at work. If I do, it's usually on a notepad that has a hard enough back to be supportive.turin wrote: I don't know what good a desk made out of LEGOs would be though... the guy requested to have the surface still be bumpy instead of topped with smooth tiles, so he couldn't write on it or anything...
A desk is for placing one's keyboard, mouse, and monitors on.

Let me reword it: perhaps by forcing a friend, relative or otherwise to give it to you.turin wrote:Exchanging? You mean... like... giving LEGOs I already have away?Shadow Master wrote:Perhaps exchanging with a friend, relative, etc.
* forcing: when I say this I meant it by all possible mechanisms. You certainly don't need money to ste... err, borrow without their permission, their old lego pieces' box from their bedrooms or cellars.
