I decided to try a goblin pic on my own. This is a very rough draft.
I know about the way too long upper arm, and the left ear's angle. (your view) Is it worth anything?

About your image, you are IMO missing details, and you should try to add more perspective to it.
PS: anyone likes my new avatar?

He looks like a tall yoda... Change the ears.-wight- wrote:EARS!!!!! Gah! Those ears are just...way too...BIG.
i agree.
His right arm is very long. I am not sure if it is foreshortening or if his upper arm is 2x the size of his lower arm. If it is foreshortening then his right arm is WAY way too long.
Screw it... I can go without a sig.
All of the goblin's in game are hiding behind their spear, they are not a confident warrior. The arms are extremely out of porportion aswell.

Getting better, but it's definitely not there yet. The arm holding the spear still looks weird, I think. Try grabbing a broom or something similar and looking in the mirror while you pretend it's a spear, for reference with the pose.
Also, he looks too tall for a goblin to me, I think they're more short and stubby, more like a dwarf but not as tough.

Maybe. The arm is still drawn a bit messy, I think I'll clean it up or redraw it.Master Stilgar wrote:The arm holding the spear still looks weird, I think.
That's what I did, and it looked alright.Master Stilgar wrote:Try grabbing a broom or something similar and looking in the mirror while you pretend it's a spear, for reference with the pose.
For my understanding, his neck is too long.Master Stilgar wrote:Also, he looks too tall for a goblin to me, I think they're more short and stubby, more like a dwarf but not as tough.
You helped me, but you have to learn some lessons at art critique.
This is very anti-constructive. Nothing useful to get out of it, and insulting/discouraging. Please stop posting such opening lines.Master Stilgar wrote:Getting better, but it's definitely not there yet.

Yeah, that's not constructive...ascendant wrote:This is very anti-constructive. Nothing useful to get out of it, and insulting/discouraging. Please stop posting such opening lines.Master Stilgar wrote:Getting better, but it's definitely not there yet.
Still, you have a right to ask for the type of replies you want....
The pose looks like it may have been drawn pretty exactly from a real pose. However, this is a goblin: grab the broom and go back to the mirror, but this time try to pose as a goblin. The current pose is more like something an over-enthusiastic king's guard spearman might stand in, not a pose in which you'd see a fearful weakling goblin.ascendant wrote:That's what I did, and it looked alright.Master Stilgar wrote:Try grabbing a broom or something similar and looking in the mirror while you pretend it's a spear, for reference with the pose.
Shoulders are not a horizontal line.
Between the neck and shoulders is a wonderful muscle called the trapezoidus.
Google/Wikipedia can tell you what it is.
Try editing this drawing with the sole purpose of adding in a proper trapezoidus, and post the results. You will learn something out of this bargain.
Major hint: The biggest reason (according to both me, and the guy who draws "Spawn") that women appear to have longer, more slender necks than men, is because women generally have a much smaller trapezoidus. The trapezoidus grows up the back of the neck (it's attached there, and is one of the big fellas involved in moving the head), and as it gets bigger, it kinda absorbs the bottom of the neck.

Very good comment, and one which I suggest you follow, but wait until after you've tried drawing the trapezoidus - the lesson you'll learn from trying is worth it.zookeeper wrote:The pose looks like it may have been drawn pretty exactly from a real pose.
