The first part says: "It has an extra pair of arms, holds a book against itself"

Btw I really like it too :)

Heheheh...Here's me going Nuts and then some more.
This is sooooo not Jevyan, but it's too much fun not to share. Basically a travelling shelf built from the body of a drake, that carries not one but an entire collection of human skulls ! Welcome to the wonderful land of Schizophrene Liches

 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! *runs and hides*

That has "final boss from a really epic campaign" written in orphan blood all over it.

First attempt at a muddy edmond. He currently looks like he's been rolling himself in mud, so it might be a good idea to use this portrait when the player finds him in the swamp and a cleaner one for later dialog.

Edit : adding a cleaner (but still muddy) version. Pick up your favorite or use both :)

Man that Litch is amazing! I really had to make a sprite of that :D
What is the thing on HIS right arm? It looks like a cross between a wing and a candelabra. :?:

Here it is ( I'm seriously out of practise in the spriting area ).

Looks good, if a little... a LOT too big. Otherwise, not bad at all. I think the other arm is probably a Drake wing.

Regarding Edmond: both sounds like it could be good.

:hmm: Ok, I picked the less muddy Edmond for now. I'm not sure if the difference is big enough that you'd really ever notice it in-game, since you wouldn't get to see the two versions next to each other or even one right after the other. We'll see.

A drake wing is what it is, though I am considering the addition of extra hands on each "fingertip". The candle thing is a trick of perspective : as I liked the idea of floating things that came up for Jevyan, I added 3 plates with candles around him.

Amazing sprite anyway, really makes me itch to finish that portrait

Edit : three alternates for haldric are done and can be wired in the scenarios as you'll see fit. Only mad haldric remains before the character set is complete

Nice selection of expressions!

Default - "Friends, countrymen, lend me your ears."
Surprised - "Why you insufferable cad! How dare you!?"
Annoyed - "Now see here, you recreant."

thespaceinvader wrote:I'd be inclined to lose the floating skulls myself. They're a bit too akin to Warhammer 40000 cyber-skulls - that was my first thought when I saw them. The skull as the familiar could be cool though. I'd be more than happy to knock together a quick sprite to that effect. Bat wings plus skull.
This has me worried. I've been coming up with a number of...things that definitely qualify as "bone horrors", but none of them fits the "ancient lich" concept such as I envision it. Human-shaped or not, Jevian is a king of old, i.e. anything might serve as a body but it had better fit the rather high opinion he has of himself. In that respect, nothing works better than a (mostly) human body with rich decorum.

Now what does this have to with the skulls, you may ask. Well, I've explored many options but none that satisfies me ; without them, the portrait is a lot more...mundane ; other floating objects I've tried until now don't work as well ; and the body is too human, which makes further "enhancements" look out of place.

So either I start over and save this one as another spare lich, or I keep the skulls as they are. Just because Games Workshop's been there before doesn't mean we should throw away the good stuff.

Edit : another enjoyable heap of bones that's likely not gonna be Jevyan

Surprised: The eyes are great. He looks like he just got rickrolled. But the fist IMO refers more into anger. Perhaps loosening it a bit would support the amazement.

I feel like maybe they all ought to have at least one set of obviously usable hands - I'd expect them to need them for casting spells.

couldn't the great lich just be the guy in the throne on the top, and everything else his "mount" ?

The bone horror 2, apart of awesome could be a possibility for the UTBS spider lich, since the low part of the portrait looks like a spider base.

Still, those two bone horrors looks like a very creative concept and I can only think on how awesome it looks :D

That could work. Some kind of necromantic throne of judgement (or damnation in this case)
