Re: Ruffian Animations.
Better, but still very stiff, and all the movements are separate - he moves his hand. Then his leg. Then his head. Than his body. Then his other leg. Then his hand. It's noticeably cut-and-slide animation in places. And you're still not turning his head or body AT ALL.
It's improving, but it has a long way to go yet. Seriously, copy the Thug's animation. I recognise that it;s more satisfying to innovate than to copy, but the result will be better, and you'll probably learn a lot about how to animate.

Re: Ruffian Animations.
I was having the same problem only yesterday. I asked about it on IRC, and the solution we came up with was to reset my cookies. Now I can log in just fine.Major wrote:And would any one know why the forums keep logging me out?
It's really annoying, some times I get logged out between the just-logged-in page and the index page.
I think it might help loosen the ruffian up a bit if you were to make him lift his left leg and turn slightly left (his left, not ours) as he prepares for the swing.

Re: Ruffian Animations.
I think the biggest problem is that the body should be rotating around vertical axis. Try out the movement yourself and you notice that the body naturally rotates to follow the movement of the arm. Then try to move like your sprite moves, keeping your body rigid, and you'll feel like a robot.

Re: Ruffian Animations.
Good job on blocking, but the animation *needs* a step in it. His weapon is nowhere NEAR long enough to swing in place like that, so he'd just end up sliding.

And by step, we mean JUST a lunge, with only one main leg of movement. Like a baseball batter stepping into a swing.thespaceinvader wrote:Good job on blocking, but the animation *needs* a step in it. His weapon is nowhere NEAR long enough to swing in place like that, so he'd just end up sliding.

Re: Ruffian Animations.
Longer, but don't step the back leg up to meet it afterwards - really lean him into the forward motion. He's going to be sliding about 70 pixels to meet his opponent, and it needs to look like he's really moving with it.
Getting there, though =)

What am I supposed to do with his legs after the lunge?
Something like this? (he looks like he's gonna kill himself by internal heamoragging)

Nice!
If like swinging a bat then maybe the front leg should come up a frame or two just before the hands move forward?

Re: Ruffian Animations.
More like that, yes. now make the swing bigger, and the travel of the club longer - he looks like he just stops, mid-swing.
Keep up the good work =)

Wow, that's good. He kinda reminds me of a hobbit. Which is good.

Re: Ruffian Animations.
With the carry through you might have the other foot step forward (like your previous animation, but with the bigger intermediate step). He'd have to back up to his original position as part of the recovery though.
Re: Ruffian Animations.
I made a new frame and inserted it and edited the frame directly afterwards to give fluidity.
