It's mostly about reflecting the color of the sky, I think.

On that note - one needs to consider how the water will look during different parts of day and night...

*QI Alarm*

I believe it's to do with the way light reflects off water. It absorbs more of the red end of the spectrum, hence giving a blue tone (which might be something to do with the Hydrogen bonds, I'm not so sure on that).

The engine tints everything.

But seriously "clean" water is going to be brown (the color of the mud and rocks at the bottom :!: ) until you get to deep or fast rivers. It still isn't super radioactive bright however. Tropical unpolluted water actually has a bit of green. It is brighter, but not to the point of radioactivity.

I think you should just shoot for the current water's color.

Actually if you start going that far, river water should be a mix of brown, green and white. River physics is something every single game I've played fails on (waterfalls are about the only thing that look right, but even then the tops and bottoms are generally more than a little off). It's very easy to convey grass, roads, desert and all manner of landscapes in digital form, rivers are easy if you don't try to convey them as more than a simple blue/green/clearish meandering path, but when you try to get clever about it it's just noticable the difference (similar to how faces look digitally), especially to those who are so used to seeing it up close and personal.

Right. Which is why he should aim for the current water (unless plans were already in the works to do it over ???).

Indeed, sorry procastination makes me make more random posts when I should be revising

Have to admit it's a little too blue for my liking, then again I'm used to the greyness of the British shores (shutting up now).

Please do.

I don't want rhyging to get irritated by the offtopic ramblings going on whilst he's not online.

There have been many opinions, but I have focused on reducing the dizziness effect and excessive saturation and brightness. Although I could not solve the whole issue of the waves against the rocks. I also worked in the beach version. This does have some good waves that any surfer would like to try (hence the name of the current image where you can see all these changes...)

For especulators of water color, is easy to apply a color filter to create turquise waves, green waves, pestilence waves, muddy waves, bood waves .... As you can see in the second sample. But I think there are problems more necesary to solve ...

Wow, seriously great work on those waves. And brilliant idea on the filter too.

Fantastic work =D

I wish I knew how to code terrain, or I'd be putting this stuff to good use as we speak...

And another wow! That is looking so great! :D

I really love those subtle waves! And I've been staring at the swashing at the cliffs for quite a while - it's really soothing :)

The only minor thing bothering are the turquoise beach waves. They feel a lot like thin threads - perhaps their ends could run out more smoothly.

Indeed, makes you wonder why those bloody palm trees are so static.

Professional level stuff.
