there are probably some cool healing anims possible for non-magical healers, we can have it move on the hex of the healed unit just like an attack anim, for example

Good to know - I've been wondering about directional healing animations for a while myself...

'Tis possible, but is it a good idea? Players get frustrated when the animations at the beginning of the turn take too long, and if the healing animation was directional, that means if it was surrounded by six units it would do six different animations - taking a long time and getting on people's nerves.

I guess you could do a directional animation AND a general animation for use when there's more than one unit to heal, but that seems like a lot of work for little benefit.

IMO it's probably a better idea to stick with general aura healing effects - though how that'll work for a non-magical healer, I don't know.

Healers already do one animation for every unit healed, this would be no different in that respect... it would have to be a quick animation, though.

Maybe throw a bag or a bottle at the wounded unit? :P

Anyways, I don't think I'll be having the time and enthusiasm to work with the ahadath animation very soon - if you're feeling like shading it, be my guest. If you haven't done so by the end of the next week, I might give it a try (end of the exams, woot! onward to unemployment!)

For a directional healing animation for a non-magical heal, why not just have the unit seem to create a bandage, poultice or potion in their hands and then make as if to give it to the unit? That could be done quickly to cover healing multiple units.

Pull a generic package out of a pouch and toss it in the general direction of the unit?

I was going for 'pull a handful of powder from a pouch and blow it in the general direction of the unit' since a 'unit being healed by bandages etc' animation would be a tough ask.

Well, that's why I said bandage, poultice, or potion, anything that it can be seen to create or give to the unit without a magical effect being involved. The blowing of the powder still seems to a bit a bit mystical though...?

Inhaled medicines aren't THAT uncommon...

I picked that method because it involves no particular action on the healed unit's part - anything else requires some interaction...

Well then, that's fine if someone wants to take it that way.

I didn't see any of these as requiring interaction on the part of the unit being healed, as the healing unit could extend a hand with said item quickly and the impression is there of him/her doing the healing.

Either way works, or could at least be tested to see if it works.

A censer might be a good alternative too; it seems like it would be a little more dignified than throwing powder at people. Come to that, it would still probably have a slightly mystical feel, but is that really that much of an issue? Doing vaguely mystical things doesn't mean the ekim is doing anything magical any more than doing vaguely mystical things accomplishes magic in the real world.

I like the idea of a censer, that could be something the lvl 2 unit could use. I think it would be cool to use it as a flail like weapon (though it would probably have to be more robustly made).

Even if the unit isn't directly a magic user there could be something akin to magic abilities inherent of the mixtures he's using, explaining away why sprinkling powder over a unit would be effective. Like having ground the commonly used (in fantasy) mandrake root or something.

Whatever animation is used though I'm going to get the base frames down first. So unless anyone else wants to do the animation its gonna be awhile until I get down to this.

EDIT:

Alright, Ghulam is ready. I made some additional effort to try and differentiate this units helmet from the Ahadath and Amir while still keeping the basic shape. It turned out pretty swell.

--> Next, hawk? BTW I could need some help with this one. Will his idle frame be standing or flying? Hmm, gonna check out corvvs thread about his bird unit again.

Great work... I hope you got my email.

If you haven't done it, I would suggest making the falcon flying, kinda like the current gryph... if that isn't too much work. It gets 60% everywhere, so its kinda assumed that its a unit thats always flying.
I suspect having one foot in the past is the best way to understand the present.

It looks good the Ghulam, with style of original eras, really good, like the others Kalifa units you did. Lets see what more you can do.
