Thanks. I'll try to finish the movement for the ahadath later today, at least, not sure if I'll be able to finalize it yet. It won't be as flashy as the slayer, obviously, since it's just a level 1. Unless thespaceinvader's planning to work with the amir, I could have a go with it as well, and give it somesort of a spin attack to give the scimitar a fancy role.
And since I'm already babbling about the scimitar, you sure you want to give him a "typical" scimitar, or a more Persian type?

I'm not planning on doing any animations on these guys at the moment. They're all yours =)

Alright then, I'll see if I'm feeling inspired enough for the others.

In the meantime, here's the promised movement for the ahadath. A sketch, but I guess it's progress. If anyone's feeling like continuing from this, be my guest - I'll start working on it again when I've got the energy. And energy seems to come and go as it pleases these days :P

EDIT: Finally decided to learn how to make gifs with photoshop. Also included the frames.

The only issue is that it's a little too horizontal, both in terms of direction and in terms of perspective.

I'm not too worried by the slightly horizontal perspective - it's a rapid animation, after all. But the horizontal direction of the blow does seem to rule out using it for an attack-south animation.

Other than that, it's pretty cool. :D

You know what I mean. :P

On the other hand, the greater the variety in a unit's animation, the more real the unit feels. So having separate attack-south and attack-southeast animations would be cool. This animation would also work surprisingly well for attack-northeast.

Well I could make a southern attack as well, maybe a northern one too. I'd rather do that than play around with the current motion, so if there are no other problems, I'll start the shading. Maybe I could do something about the perspective while at it.

... the point is that there is not west attack direction =P

Bring his nearer-camera foot down a bit right the way through and be careful with your shading, you should be able to turn this into a south-east attack.

Nice work on those, anyway
Greek fire is a unique invention ..

flame throwers aren't the same .. they are - somehow - a combination of bombardiers and fire archers ..

Hi everyone, I'm back.

I could tell you that I have been very busy for the last month and haven't found the time to post anything. But that would be a lie obviously. Truth is I've been held prisoner by mind devourers from alpha centauri. So after a month of a diet of soybeans and fish oil I've finally managed to escape.

Girgistian: Thanks, your animation looks great :D . Probably just need to fix the foot movement and maybe some minor tweaks and we have a south-east attack animation. If you tire of working on it I can take over and shade it if you want.

About the amir; I didn't really think about exactly what kind of scimitar hes wielding, except that it would perhaps be upgraded to a falchion at a higher level. I just based it on the picture below. It would be very cool if you would want to continue on to animate the amir.

White shade: I'm not sure exactly what you mean but this is fantasy and this faction is only loosely based on history as Jetryl pointed out it should be. That the real Abbasid military didn't have flamethrowers like depicted in the movie clip doesn't mean that Wesnoth can't. I hope that was what you meant.

To show that I haven't been totally unproductive here we have the Ekim, looking a bit different than the old one. As a healer unit that's not relying on magic but on herbs and medicine I wanted to show that by having a potion and a pouch hanging by his sides. Question is, is this a fitting depiction of such a unit? can you make out his accessories?

Yay! You've not vanished into the ether!

The Ekim looks great - I like that he's got a bit of weight on him, it really differentiates him as a non-com.
