Re: Khalifate facelift: final tweaks in progress
Most times when someone lunges in combat, they barely lift their foot. Lifting the foot is making yourself unstable.

Although, if it did lift his foot, and fall with all his weight in one attack, it would be quite stronger, but as TSI said, it would make him much more vulnerauble to enemy attacks. This would probably be a good idea for charge attacks... I dunno.

Say, are you related to my fencing coach?thespaceinvader wrote:Most times when someone lunges in combat, they barely lift their foot. Lifting the foot is making yourself unstable.
Okay, I see the sense in what you say. I thought the movement might be more exaggerated to give the impression of more force behind the blow, but lunging with the foot barely off the ground would work better in this case.

No, but I hold a (slightly out of date by now) black belt in Tae Kwon Do. It's also a lot more difficult to do a lunge that way, you'd have to do a frame mid-swing with the foot raised, and putting frames in the middle of swings slows them down and makes them look less snappy. Or raise the foot during the wind-up, which could work, but I don't feel would look as good.

Re: Khalifate facelift: final tweaks in progress
I'd say your on the right track, though I feel your a bit too reserved in moving some body parts. Trying to explain with words would be hard for me so I edited the animation. Showing rather than telling is better anyway and saves you some work. Had to edit the gif though so the transparency is screwed up.
I pretty much edited all bodyparts slightly. The main thing though was the shield movement.
Also something you should do in combat is to keep your eyes on the enemy so I moved his eyes accordingly.

yes, very nice. I may be no artist, but i can recognise good work, and this whole faction looks great. Looking forward to the animations!

Emphasis mine. I don't think anything noted thus far needs to be corrected. The hands are big, but that's within human deviance, especially for a portly guy. The neck is short, but that again fits like a glove for a portly guy.Sleepwalker wrote:Fog: Hmm yeah the hands might be a tad big and no, I definitely won't go prince of persia.
Frogger, Sgt. Groovy: Well, I disagree. He has a somewhat portly build and wearing several layers of cloth of varying thickness after all.
AtemTheLightning: That is... interesting. If anything I think he has some resemblance to Tom Sizemore.
Also, I'm pleasantly surprised at how good you are at portrait linework/anatomy. Hopefully, if you're as good at the colors and shading, this'll be top-notch work.

Finalised Arif attack animation. I'll split it up into pngs and hold onto it til noy wants it. The shadow is a little wobbly, but I can fix that during png creation.

Re: Khalifate facelift: final tweaks in progress
Not sure about the way he turns his head. That seems kinda unrealistic, since he is turing away from whatever he is fighting to build up his swing. Otherwise, looking nice.

He needs to turn his head, since he turns his body away. He doesn't turn it nearly far enough to lose sight of the enemy.

Re: Khalifate facelift: final tweaks in progress
What happened to the Rami line (the archer with the thermite arrows) and who replace him? What are the new statistics of the Kalifa?
After far too long an absence, I have returned.
According to the quiz 100% Silver Mage (85% Archmage, 75% Shyde, 67% Flameheart and Ancient Wose,58% Assassin, Troll Warrior and Berserker). And my top score is exactly how I see myself.

I. Don't. Know. Stats. Yet. However I do know that the Rami line has been replaced by the Naffat line.

Re: Khalifate facelift: final tweaks in progress
After long silence, first prelims for Hakim attack animation. Definitely flawed as it stands, but the base concept I think is pretty solid. Major concerns:
1: the free hand merges with the pouch in frame 2.
2: tweening needed between 2 and 3. Probably motion blur on 3 also needs fiddling to better match the trajectory of the attack.
3: recovery frame should rotate rather than just pulling back.
4: overall, cloth kinematics really need close examination. The bottle's also.
