Sorry about that--I misunderstood your instructions.

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
Those look pretty fuzzy. I think you'll need to go over the outlines with a brush (on new copies, those will be probably be too much work to clean up).
Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
You need to take the entire border off first (simply fuzzy-selecting it doesn't give the right effect - the edge needs recoloured to fade to transparency properly because the border isn't black itself), then re-add it with a thicker brush. Here's thse two images taken to the first step. All I've done is opened the image in the Gimp, added an alpha channel, chosen the magic wand with a threshold of 20 and clicked the background then hit delete. Now the new bits need to be drawn in and then the border re-drawn.

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
A little workaround with the gimp : you can select the dark area to be removed with the magic wand, remove it, then convert the selection to a path and unselect, rip off unnecessary corner vertices, and finally stroke path with the ink tool (tweak shape and stroke parameters as needed) to get a clean calligraphic-style outline. It's extremely fast, and very useful when you don't have a graphical tablet, or got some smooth and neat outline to draw.
Paths can also be used to shape new bits and fill them in with base color by converting it back to selection, give them a try.
Kao
Edit : Forgot to say that you can indeed stroke the path in a new layer, so that you can color them using "fix transparency"!

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
Come on. I did this in literally 30 seconds, in four steps, including manual erasure of a resulting black border around the image. Re-drawing outlines manually except for those parts which require adding missing parts is just a waste of time.

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
thank you zookeeper!
i wrote it already twice in this thread, but for a third time... - please follow these steps:
(all other proposed methods are way more complicated or laborious)
- select the black area(s) with the magic wand
- make the selection a bit (1px) smaller
- smoothen/round it with 1 px radius (no soften/feathering!!!)
- press delete
- erase the resulting black outline around the borders of the image
- add missing bits to the top and right of the figure
- done!

And I'm through with them. Can't say it was a pleasure...

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
I found a up-scaled version of Haldric the Second's portrait in Legend of Wesmere, mainline, and decided to try to use it for "transparentization".
I wonder, is this good enough (considering it's upscaled) for use before fixing the cape's extension, or should I just try with the normal 205x205 portrait?
(I've got no experience on this so feel free to kick me hard)

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
Sorry about that, everyone--I was doing the right thing the first time, but with a 1px fuzzy brush, which resulted in a somewhat hard edge. I then proceeded to be completely misunderstand Kitty's instructions and be busy all day, resulting in my previous useless post and lack of activity all day. Again, sorry.
Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
I've finished all the UTBS portraits except Eloh (in both emotions), and the troll. I'll tackle those tomorrow.
In doing these, I drew from scratch any elements that spilled off the upper or right edges. You can tell which ones I did this to because they're bigger than 300x300. The troll is gonna have a good deal of stuff added there, when I get around to him - he appears to have his hand resting on the top of an entire club.

Etc:
(In retrospect, I almost think I should color that exterior line art on Elyssa-silver.)

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
Jetryl: On the Zhul portrait, a tiny bit of the staff (at the very top) is cut off by the right edge. You should only have to widen the canvas by about 4 pixels to fix it, but you probably should fix it; it'll look weird as it is now, I think.

Re: REQUEST Updates of old Lutesian Portraits
shadow master: i really wouldn't like to use this version of the haldric portrait - it's all blurry... i'd say just try it with the small version (because otherwise your edit looks quite good - but don't forget to add the missing part of the cape!)
Skizzaltix: no need to apologise! it's always good to have somebody offering help - i think it was mainly a misunderstanding (which you can easily blame on my bad english)...
jetryl: those look really nice!
