I say (and I hope it hasn't been already discussed) that the dwarf needs a fuller beard. Maybe coarser features (didn't know how else to put it, I'm mainly thinking in what they did with Gimli in LOTR). Soot stains from all that gunpowder maybe?

I'm not sure if it goes with official Wesnoth setting, but I've always imagined dwarves having a "harder" look than humans, not being just little guys who drink too much beer and yell a lot*.

Otherwise, great job!

* Stereotypes ftw

Having discussed this with jetryl in the past, I'm aiming to avoid the stereotypical 'dwarf beards' which are always full, thick and the same shape. They'll all have facial hair of some sort, but in some very variable styles. His won't be getting any longer, but the D'Guard's might.

almost as if beard length was a status symbol :)

In the dwarvish society the Crown taxes facial hair by length, and level 1 salary isn't enough for a waist-length beard. :P

In dwarfs, facial hair grows very slowly, at about quarter of an inch a year, and is tougher than steel. The longer your facial hair, the older you are.

Psst: it was a joke ;)

To be realistic about it, it would seem most likely that facial hair is very common and thick among dwarves, and styling it is important in dwarf culture. It's not so long ago that the same thing was true in ours - facial hair that we today would probably consider outlandish was fairly common. And awesome.

Basically, dwarves like beards. I'm going to try to come up with a few interesting styles.

EDIT: better?

Yes, I think it now easily looks like a convincing latch and so the viewer could not be confused otherwise. The slightly longer beard makes a bit of a difference as well, though it took me a moment to realize that you had lengthened it (I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me).

Ok good, I am not crazy. I saw that the beard covered more of the neck that was being shown previously in the V of the shirt, but the beard did not look any bigger. So I looked and I looked and I just figured I was crazy.

Now that you mention it, the head size difference is easily noticeable. I knew it looked better, but I could not grasp the proper how it did so apparently. :P

Not quite sure where i'd put hem, tbh. And I scrapped the lit matches in the beard for this version. Again, I might include it in the D'guard. I reason that with a beard this short, the burning matches would be a touch to close to his face...

At least the hands, I'd say. I guess using gunpowder and using such basic firearms can be quite messy.
