As far as the staff, you could always move away from the length of wood and possible give him a staff? Even if it's a short staff, or more like a sceptre or a wand, you could have it out of wood or even bronze (like the shoulders) with moon designs on it as well.

Lacking anything else to comment on, your portrait does clear up why saurians are chaotic: they're way too shiny in full daylight!

I like the overall look. The length of his upper right arm is a tad disturbing (feels a bit short compared to the other arm), though that might be a trick of perspective.
Regarding the lighting, I'd try making his shaft the brightest light source in the picture. Right now, the light on his left leg and tail feels a bit too intense : without touching the staff, a little darkening of those areas (especially the shiny white scales - I'd suggest light green as a contrast ) would draw the eye to the magic at work

Hopefully, finalised. Completely reworked the staff to add some bronze and some fairly major lunar imagery. Extended the right upper arm slightly, monkeyed with the shading and speculars on the leg and tail. Hope this works =)
Also, took a leaf out of Kitty's book and sharpened the final versions a little - more for the small one than the large.

Excellent job, I certainly think the sceptre/wand/short staff looks excellent now, and truly fits in with the rest of the figure. The shading for the light on the scales also seems to be much more realistic in regards to the light source.
Always nice to see your work.

I love it.
It's so cool I can't get how a SAURIAN portrait can look like real... but that does.

Since the augur has been fairly successful (thanks guys) the next sketch is for the Skirmisher line. Clearly, the armour needs adding, as does some clothing underneath it, but it's the basic shape that i need crit on first. The shield is based on a zulu war shield, one thick sheet of hide attached to a staff, with extra spears thrust through it.
Thoughts, plx =)

I like the idea of the Zulu war shield for the Saurians--Be kinda cool to give one of them (Probably a special campaign unit) a few of those wacky Kenyan throwing knives... The ones with four or five different blades branching off the handle. But I digress.
The shoulder/neck area feels a little weird to me--Maybe if you move the entire thing down a little? Also, I think the tail should be foreshortened a little more
Other than that, nice job! I'd love to see this in as finished a state as you got that Augur

It looks fine to me. It is a lizard and not a human afterall.Skizzaltix wrote:The shoulder/neck area feels a little weird to me--Maybe if you move the entire thing down a little?

Woah these are looking really nice. No helpful comments, just praise.
