So what's a current status of the A New Order campaign? The latest sources I can find are on Berlios in branch 1.4, 15 month untouched...
I'd like to play it under BfW 1.8. I think I can port it to the current BfW release, but I'd like to port the latest version of the campaign...

Well the code looks pretty complicated to me. Chance is that it is not just renaming paths. It might need a professional programmer. So lets hope for a pro picking it up. Is the author still around? I liked it when I played it some years ago. Akladians do not have to be balanced. They have limitations. Primevals are not really balanced too. Akladians take a lot of damage due to extrem armor. They almost have twice the hitpoints if you adjust for armor. That makes them at least 1,5 times stronger as they appear. Other units still are usefull in the campaign, but Akladian are the tanks for getting hit. I remember the author wanted them the way. As kind of supermen on the battlefield but otherwise arrogant and mean barbarians ruling by brute force and superior power. So it matches the story brilliantly. The author was not fraternizing with them, but with their victims. Therefore this part was considered political correct.

So I've started the port to BfW 1.8 . The first steps were wmllint, wmlindent and path fixes. Because I have not the .PBL file, I've published the tarball at http://tapik.buchtovi.cz/wesnoth/A_New_ ... -1.tar.bz2 . Feel free with downloading and reporting bugs.

You don't need it. Since the add-on isn't already on the (1.8 ) add-on server, you can just make a new .pbl file and upload it like any new add-on. The add-on servers for different Wesnoth versions don't share information like that between each other, so the fact that ANO exists on some older add-on server doesn't matter.tapik wrote:Because I have not the .PBL file, ...

I once had ANO running under Wesnoth 1.7.8.
These were the issues I had identified.
Maybe this will help you in your porting effort:
- other fixes:
# bugfixes to arrays (where approbiate)
.description -> .id
.user_description -> .name
# units speaking in his/her death event
# unknown scenarios referred to by id
# macro references in translatable strings
# missing whitespaces in message macro calls
# macro calls CHECKVER, ANOVER and CHECKGAWEN removed (the definitions for these can be found in ANO for Wesnoth 1.2)
# Aragwaithe Race.cfg fixed
# removed undefined ELVISH_RECRUIT (first appearance in ANO for Wesnoth 1.4)
- syncing recruit= and recruitment_pattern=
# e.g. "Orcish Archer (archer) doesn't match the recruitment pattern (fighter, fighter, healer, fighter) for its side"
# e.g. "no healer units recruitable at difficulty NORMAL"
… *lots* of changes
… But more investigation is needed:
What was the original intention and what is best for balancing? Fix recruit= or recruitment_pattern= or both?

Here are my files: ANO for Wesnoth 1.7.8 (based on ANO 1.1.6)
Note:
To reduce size of the tgz I removed the unchanged translation folder and all images but the Shadow Mage and the Orcish Shaman.
But there is still lots of work to do.
And the background of the portraits need transparancy.

In this thread Kitty presents a fast way to get transparent images from the black ones.
It is not as good as creating a new one in the right size, but quickly doable with reasonable results.

It's great to be able to play ANO again.
I've been playing through and come across one issue: In the 'Separation', even when I recall five units before clicking 'end of turn', I get a message saying I haven't chosen any units.

Same here, the only units able to move are the recruited

I found it was just the message that was wrong. The game itself is not affected. I've played on and am able to recall the units.

In Separation, I was able to recall 6 units, and then I had these 6 units in my recall list in the following scenarios. In Choosing the Best (scenario 16), I wasn't able to recall 12 units, only 3. Even in easy difficulty, with only 3 veterans and peasants, the following scenarios are quite hard.
Since this campaign has been resurrected, and has translations, why not putting it on wescamp-i18n again ?
