I don't really know how serious that sentiment is!

But yeah trolls probably don't have genders because they're a lot more like golems than actual organic beings.

He’s trolling, in case it wasn’t obvious.

This statement is an example of trolling.

Code: Select all

[race]
        id=troll
        male_name= _ "race^Troll"
        female_name= _ "race+female^Troll"
        plural_name= _ "race^Trolls"
I have a cunning plan.

Woo... These are actually dialogues from one of UMC:
I have heard that trolls are not actually born. One troll buds off another smaller troll, which then grows on its own.
Then, there are no troll women? That’s extraordinary!

UMC does not necessarily reflect what is meant to be canonical.

@Gyra_Solune: UMC does not necessarily reflect what is meant to be canonical.
AFAIK, there is yet no approved guideline that constrains speculations on this matter.
@ Bitron: ._.
Bitron – or anyone else looking for UMC-material – just create female trolls!
And, preferably, some orcs of the opposite gender as well. And a Yeti-lady... :D
If it had been done from the outset, all those wild guesses and speculations around the (I'd assume entirely normal) mating behavior of these species would never have started and gotten out of control. Nor could anyone be fooled or left up in the air about their propagation.
(It's the same as the question about the origin of drakes: simply the fact that they were added 'too late' constitutes a big mystery now about their sudden appearance.)

Yes! Drake Flameheart Arkax in Roar of the Woses is a female!
You think the males lay the eggs?
Well, with budding trolls anything is possible in Wesnoth... :mrgreen:

@Chewan: I didn't know her.

Luckily, eggs are mentioned in the drakes' description, but nothing else about the sexes.

I wouldn't even know the gender of the drakes I encountered so far, but maybe Arkax could serve as an example for people who want to write about (a) female troll(s). Pretending to be on topic...

Sure. And even as a stimulus for artists to create appropriate sprites...
You can't notice the gender of Arkax (or any other drakaina that might roam the world of Wesnoth) by the images, only by the dialogs.
Of course, as long as female drakes, trolls, orcs, yetis etc. are not officially adopted, artists might hardly waste their time on such projects. And there would always be the justified objection: not canonical – no chance to ever make it no mainline. :?
