Really? Sounds like an argument by dismissal fallacy.

Twins [are] hot now... But they don't meet each other until the next month.
Perhaps this is deviating slightly off-topic, but… I’m actually a huge Twins fan and in fact I’m going to a game when the Yankees come to Minnesota in August :D

(edited for clarity) perhaps boru was getting annoyed with negativity

another answer might be "if you don't like the name chosen by the game, right-click on the unit and rename it" although that may mess up scenarios that have hard-coded speciifc unit names.

No, it wouldn't. Unit names are completely independent of unit IDs, the former only displayed to the user, and the latter used for referring to the unit in the code. Even if that weren't the case, the author has the option of marking units as "unrenamable", preventing the user from changing the name.

The problem occurs if the unit's name is used in the scenario dialogue, and you don't have such a unit anymore. (Not a technical problem, but confusing for the player.) Thus you (the author) will usually make any unit unrenameable which is used this way.

I'm pretty much shocked by people's reactions to putting REFERENCES into campaign. Gosh. Either they complain about referenced works, or insert [acronym=SOMEONE USED THAT NAME HE'LL SURE SUE YOU IF YOU USE IT I MEAN IT]Wesnoth Forums Generic Copyright Remark[/acronym]. Brr.
As for names, maybe Belka and Strelka? :D
Geri and Freki.
Úlfrsläkt, for Wesnoth references. :P
Amaterasu, rather as reference to Okami game than to Japanese mythology. (Doesn't seem IMO like very good idea.)
... Or just plain Okami, which has less religious implications.
EDIT: Damn, I forgot Laika, more famous Soviet Space Dog.
Also, maybe include Tropey as wolf's name? TVTropes are quite strong here anyway, so possibly there are poeple who'd get the reference.

Yeah, I live in fear that White Fang himself will show up at my front door with a court summons.

Great find, thanks!

I'll add these to the Norse wolves I already have: Huargo, Lyall, Fenrir, Warg.

From where? I don't recognize it.

Okami sounds good, thanks!

I got Laika in there already, thank you. She's famous from the People's Cube.

A bit too 21st century for me, thanks.

Vaeringjar, kickass faction of Vikings, have Ulfrslakt, chaotic wolf-people as their archers.
But if this isn't so recognisable, then maybe nevermind.
