Greetings. I've only just registered, but I've been playing off and on for a few years. I really like how far this project has come since I first found this game in 2012.

Splendid work. I look forward to seeing continued improvement in the game.

As far as myself, I'm a hardware repair specialist in the Pacific Northwest of North America. I'm also a long-time video game aficionado...and by long, I mean since I was 5; I mean since we first had an Atari 2600 in our living room way back when.

Anyhow, you probably don't want to listen to me prattle on about the old days. Let's have some fun.

Hello... I started playing Wesnoth last year, but the first time didn't manage to keep me entertained when I reached the Elvish Incursion campaign ( especially on that troll valley chapter ) and I uninstalled the game later on to clear up some HDD space. This year ( specifically this year's September ), I have gone back to it and discovered the Scaling Mod. It made the RNG less frustrating and I am enjoying it very much. Much more when I discovered the zombie survival map from Era of Magic ( combined with the Reign of Lords and Scaling Mod ) with the "turn limit" off. Wish someone made more of that, and so I decided to do just one. It started with a bigger one, but then I just went with a smaller ( 1 Player survival ); But I took a look at the .cfg file of the original survival map... And just decided to do some test maps ( sometime on the future ), running through the basics so I can grasp the flow of the coding. I also do some sketching ( though not in Wesnoth style ) but no coloring yet, still learning it. I am also interested in creating unit graphics for this game, maybe my first goal is to create a unit and its promotions ( with two versions: one good for vanilla [level 1-3], and another good with Reign of Lords [level 1-5]).

Yo, I used to play the game a lot when I was 6 to 10 years old and after almost 15 years decided to return after seeing it on steam, I am currently trying to complete all campaign on highest difficulty ( not with much sucess I must admit ).
I am currently studying to become an IT engineer and live in France.

Hi folks, I recently learned about Battle for Wesnoth and was amazed that I hadn't ever heard of it before. Been having a lot of fun learning the default gameplay as well as dipping into some of the more popular Add-Ons.

One thing that is a little frustrating is the steep learning curve of creating new content. If I try to google any given topic, the articles tend to be from around 2014 or even older, and are marked on the Wiki as "Outdated." Is there a source for current tutorials on creating new content? Just from browsing around the forums (and experience with other games) I'm aware that 99% of custom content is complete garbage, so I understand the need to carefully curate what goes into supported content. But it feels very tough to even get started making anything new when every tutorial is half a decade out of date. I must be missing something--are there any current tutorials or examples to help me get started with WML? I've spent a fair amount of time digging into the cfg files of existing content to try to get a handle on the language, but its tough without some kind of guidance. Any help is greatly appreciated!

There's this page for the absolute basics of how an add-on should be structured, as well as the ReferenceWML page. Generally though, the best way is to look through existing content (add-ons or mainline), check the wiki to see if there's already a tag that does what you want, or of course feel free to ask questions in the WML Workshop.

The WML Guide add-on should be up-to-date - it was created last year for the latest version of Wesnoth (1.14) and is actively maintained.

You played Wesnoth at 6? Please tell me more! (My son's six, but I just can't see him enjoying it just yet, there is to much "math" involved in beating the game with the terrains, defense, weapon damage and strike number... -- but would love to show it to him, he's developing an interest in computer games, and then it rather be Wesnoth than some stupid mobile arcade game)

I started playing this game in December as I had a heavy flu, couldn't sleep all the time but was too tired to work with papers so I needed something to exercise by brain with, and this was the top game in Software Manager. So far I haven't quit playing though I would that there would be a way to force victory in single player scenarios. As long as the RNG is a black box you have no guarantee that you can kill the enemy boss - or anyone - within the time limit. Nevertheless I think I can give some feedback on campaigns.

Hi!
New member here! Decided to join because I've been thinking about joining some kind of open-source project and Wesnoth has been on my mind. I'm 18 and from Finland. I started playing Wesnoth in 2010 when I was 9 and I have loved the game since.

I'm actually thinking about continuing the Finnish translation project because it seems bit dead and I'd like kids from Finland to be able to play and enjoy the game as a whole. If there are any Finns here please say something, it would be nice to see there are others as well and maybe translate together (?).

I hope to become a software developer so maybe in the future I could take a more active role as a member of the community and start developing the game with others.

Welcome! If you're looking to get involved in translations, Ivanovic is the person you'd need to talk to.

Thank you!
I already emailed Jarkko, who is responsible of the Finnish translation. Let's see if he is still active or if I there are any active Finns translating the game. If not, then I guess I'll have to continue alone and try to convince my friends :D

Hi Supperman, yeah if you press ":" (or "shift"+":") a command line will come up. Type "debug". That will activate cheat mode. Then right click anywhere to change the side of a unit, add new unit, or kill enemy boss. :)
