That is one hurdle in the path of this idea, as it adds complexity to a system that works fine as it is currently.

This could be done with a WML macro easily enough. Then it would only be applied on scenarios where it made sense, and they could be rebalanced at the same time. It would be pretty easy to write too, one just needs the inclination!

Well then, I'm sure if anyone was to incline away and submit it as a FR, it definitely stands to get more chance of inclusion that way then as floating around as a thought. :P

I was simply suggesting bounding the experience given in order to make it a predictable amount harder so it can be more easily balanced into the levels.
I agree with random up to half their xp, or so, to not make the difficulty much higher for the scenarios. It's easier than rebalancing them.

Another possibility is to give some of the enemies a "recall list" as well. Perhaps have surviving enemies from some of the scenarios you beat appear on the recall lists of recurring enemy leaders.

Snazzy. This, of course, would mean less "kill them all!" scenarios would need to be offered. ;)

Yes it'd be awesome to have a campaign with more ButD, CtB, SiSOfEBatRH, and GtUfaW missions than KEnWMCS missions. I really really liked the one MfHtH aFONiAYbSSSiGDsWYBA mission from HttT.

Could that also include missions such as DEIYatM such as the last scenario in the scepter of fire campaign?

It could but then you'd be missing the point.

Which was to have some enemies survive to be recalled.
If the AI even knows to access it's recall list if you did give it one...

oh and btw.

It does since late 1.7. See the last scenarios in LoW.

When you play Kalenz in Delfador's Memoirs you can recruit level 2s.

Yeah, but that's basically to make up for the fact that you don't have time to accumulate level 2's for him. It's fully possible to start him with a recall list populated by level 2's, level 3's, or even level 1's with some xp to them, or maybe even some level 3's with some AMLA's under their belts. Unit WML is pretty versatile in that regard. (And it's the only WML I have any working familiarity with.)

Actually, that's a pretty good idea. Someone should do that.
