New iPhone art - feedback needed!
Hello all! As you may know, I am working on the iPhone port. Since the device has a fixed 480x320 resolution, this provides a good opportunity to spruce up some of the screens, when you don't have to worry how it will look on other resolutions.
I'm not an artist, but I know my way around Photoshop and can composite an image pretty good. I need some feedback on these new main menu screens and loading screens that I came up with...
The main menu screens use existing story art as a background image, with the logo and buttons drawn over top.
The loading screens are a custom made background image, then the progress bar and help tips are drawn.
What do you think?
EDIT: changed loading1, added loading 4,5,6

I think these loading screens could be backported to mainline version...

Love 'em all!
Re: New iPhone art - feedback needed!
Well, if you ask us to chose one that we like over the others, sotty I can't ; they're all awesome… Just one minor nitpick though; I find it odd to have the dead body riddled with arrow on the "elvish shaman's" loading screen… the same arrow-riddled body which appears on teh "necromancer's" loading screen… Surely there must be other, more "natural", backgrounds available that you can use instead for the "elvish shaman's" loading screen?
Re: New iPhone art - feedback needed!
They're great, but I think the campaign/skirmish/MP/etc buttons could stand to be a bit larger.
Other than that, I think all these screens could stand to be backported to mainline.

Very nice. Any chance an orc, dwarf, and drake loading screen might materialize?

Those are probably dependent on quality portraits for them.mabeenot wrote:Very nice. Any chance an orc, dwarf, and drake loading screen might materialize?

Very true, there is a version of the bg without the dead bodies that I can use. Maybe I will photoshop in some flowers or something.Kalajel wrote:Just one minor nitpick though; I find it odd to have the dead body riddled with arrow on the "elvish shaman's" loading screen… the same arrow-riddled body which appears on teh "necromancer's" loading screen… Surely there must be other, more "natural", backgrounds available that you can use instead for the "elvish shaman's" loading screen?
I suppose I should just make it 6 loading screens, one for each faction. Although the drake portraits are a different, cartoony style...
Re: New iPhone art - feedback needed!
I kinda like the first main screen — a bit dramatic, but that's alright
I do like the idea of having faction-specific loading screens.

Looks great, just curious, where did the tutorial button go? I promise you most of the people who play it on the iPhone (99%+ if the port is successful) will have no clue on how to play the game. Might be a good idea to put it back up.
Re: New iPhone art - feedback needed!
The tutorial is something you will only play once, so it was moved from the main menu to the first entry in the campaign list. I also did a lot of work on the tutorial to properly explain all the control changes.Blueblaze wrote:Looks great, just curious, where did the tutorial button go? I think the undead guy should be a lich! Necromancers are just regular humans, even if they aren't a part of the loyalist faction.

I think it looks great. My sis made me delete wesnoth(according to her, i play wesnoth a *bit* too much) from my computer, and my lappy's got a virus, so it would be a relief to be able to play it on my iPhone. On the other hand, I don't have an iPhone. It'll probably work on my iPod touch, right?
