Favorite Weapon?
Which weapon out of any used in Wesnoth, would you want to use in battle?
Mine would be, a battle axe, or spear.

Re: Favorite Weapon?
Oh, do I have to use a weapon from Wesnoth? I was wanting to use Vera or Mr Pointy. Oh, well I guess I'll just have to go with lightbeam then.

my favorite would be the elf shaman's slows attack, but if that's not an option, then poison knives.

Re: Favorite Weapon?
Dwarf fighter portrait's Axehammer thing.
EDIT: yeah, clearly I'm not going on utility here, more rule of cool on the weapons i've personally designed. For utility, I think i'd take a Spectre's baneblade.

Re: Favorite Weapon?
Probably depends partly on who I was fighting. Probably a crossbow, given range, comparative ease for an un-trained, unfit person like me to use, and of course, a higher rate of fire than the dwarvish guns (at least in game). A long bow would be better, if I had the strength and training to use it.
For melee weapons, a spear or pike. Nice long reach, simple to use. Just point and jab.
No swords, those require skill.

Re: Favorite Weapon?
True, but spear and pikes require a great deal of training to be used effectively with others (where their strength comes from), and on it's own a spear or pike in the hands of an unskilled user is probably a liability. More likely to hit someone with a sword. The Great Rings wrote:For melee weapons, a spear or pike. Nice long reach, simple to use. Just point and jab.

Re: Favorite Weapon?
Actually, I'd probably go for magic of some kind if I could use it. These are the Wesnoth weapons I would choose if I had to use one to defend myself in real life.

Some sort of Cold/Arcane tempest attack followed by a quick poke with a Plague Staff.

Well, I'm thinking of an old Japanese proverb here; "one hundred hours of spear, a thousiand hours of bow, and ten thousiand hours of sword."Turuk wrote:True, but spear and pikes require a great deal of training to be used effectively with others (where their strength comes from), and on it's own a spear or pike in the hands of an unskilled user is probably a liability. So yeah, I guess spear it is…
Re: Favorite Weapon?
Not claiming that the sword might not require more complex training, but think of it this way. If you have not been trained with a spear, and someone is coming at you, you have once chance to get a thrust in before he's inside your reach... then you're done.Kalajel wrote:Well, I'm thinking of an old Japanese proverb here; "one hundred hours of spear, a thousiand hours of bow, and ten thousiand hours of sword."

Not in Wesnoth, you have 33+ hp, don't you? You can survive five hits, can't you...Turuk wrote:Not claiming that the sword might not require more complex training, but think of it this way.
