Why does the grunt have a cape?

Post by Gambit »

A simple enough question. It doesn't make much sense to me for the bread and butter of the orc (of all races!) fighters to wear capes.

I would imagine it hangs in there for TC purposes.

Because he fights crime by day (and subjugates lesser races by night).

That also makes me wonder why superheros who fly wear capes. Because it looks dashing?

Maybe the grunt just wants to be dashing, you ever think of that?

I agree, Turuk. Even orcs want to look cool and follow fashion styles.

Question 2. Why because.
Just kidding. I won't be that childish.

I was just wondering. It struck me as odd. It seemed to me it would get in the way. Then again this game has sea serpents and yetis.

We are faster than greased lightning.

Well, the original caped superhero idea came from the imagery presented by strongmen who used to wear capes in their performances. The grunts are big and bad, so maybe they felt a cape would really set off their image as well.

Nothing puts fear into the hearts of the goodguys like an orc dressed like a superhero.

Obviously, the orcish grunts haven't watched The Incredibles enough times.

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

In their defense, there are very few jet engines to worry about in mainline Wesnoth.

Those "capes" are actually hides skinned from killed dire wolves and vicious black bears. It's a status symbol - in order to wear one, the Orc must kill the animal by himself. The larger the hide, the more feared and respected he becomes among the clan.
