I think there's copyright things making that not possible...

Well that stinks, a lotr map pack would be awesome. Wait why is it copyright, if no one can make a map that is exactly like the ones from the movies. :?

I really don't think there is anything wrong with you making a map pack that resembles the locations of battles from LotR.

However, I think Woodmouse is referring to the fact that under copyright, you cannot claim that it is a LotR map pack and/or title the maps as the battles were named in the books. This does not stop you from making the maps and mentioning that they may resemble certain battles from some other place. You can also do the common trick of adapting the names, say instead of the Battle of Isengard, you could have the Battle of Whosengard? :lol2:

Well, it sounded funny to me said out loud.

I see woodmouse's point that you could not name the maps after the battles. But I was asking if anyone has made a really cool map pack, because I do not have the artistic abilities to make a very cool map pack. :D

Also depends on what maps. It is hard to do something like Helms Deep or Minis Tirith realistically seeing as you could walk over the walls. Though you could do a map pack inspired by LoTR i think that would be fine.

Yeah, I meant that the names couldn't be like in Lotr.

I think that in the new versions of wesnoth there it should be harder to breach a castle wall. Then castle building would be more interesting and castle breaching would be more fun. :D

A list of names can't be copyrighted but I'm sure that many of the Lotr names are trademarked.

While the idea is a good one Cobra, and some people agree with your line of thinking, the devs have noted that it would alter the aspect of gameplay in Wesnoth. The castle tiles are to exist more for show, and to give the defense bonus, then to actually simulate a real castle.

I know and understand how it would affect the game, but it is still a cool thought.

Wesnoth is essential to different games. Campaign and Multiplayer. Campaigns are more like realistic army clashes, while MP focuses on tactics and representing armies and is very dependent on balancing.

btw, 24 posts in a matter of hours? Nice one.

Someone should write a script which just posts random words to the forums so you could rack up hundreds of posts per hour that way, which would then presumably be even nicer.

Hahaha. It's nothing.
In the Egoboo forum, I posted 150 posts in 45 mins.
(if someone doesn't know, Egoboo is another open source game I love (and I have made skins for some characters in it :D))
