Wesnoth 1.5.4

Post by ivanovic »

Wesnoth 1.5.4 is out!

This is another release of the 1.5.x development branch. That means it may include a bigger amount of bugs than the 1.4.x branch and each version is not compatible with another one from the 1.4.x and 1.5.x branch since we do change quite a lot between the releases. Keep in mind, it might be a lot more buggy than the 1.4.x branch so don't be disappointed if you get a crash every now and then. "Normal" players should not use this release, you should stay with the stable branch. But if you want to test the future of Wesnoth, you are free to check 1.5.4.

The only reason for this release is the bug fixing frenzy esr ended in over the last weeks. 46 bugs were fixed since 1.5.3. So when updating expect a by far more polished version than 1.5.3. Beside this balancing was adjusted for several units and some new graphics were added.

Some other important things to mention:
***
The advanceto key in [unit_type] was changed to advances_to, as internally it is immediately renamed to advances_to and used that way in both unit.cpp and unit_types.cpp, along with being the key that is actually used in [unit], thus being what *should* be edited in stored units.
The advanceto key is now deprecated and will be removed in 1.5.6, wmllint can make the required changes.
***
Building Wesnoth now requires fontconfig 2.4.2 or higher (only tested with 2.6.0). This dependency was already needed for using pango so no new runtime requirements are added.
***
Removed the --small-gui build option, starting Wesnoth with the --smallgui parameter achieves the same.
***
Editor2 is now built by default, that is, without having to supply an extra compilation flag. To build *without* editor2, set the DISABLE_EDITOR2 define. The behaviour of scons, cmake and autotools is unchanged, this affects only people who use some other building method. If you start getting linker errors, you most likely need to add editor2's sources to the build or disable it.
***

Of course there is also the full changelog listing (almost) all the changes since 1.5.3. A changelog with changes that might be visible to most users (and only includes these) is the players changelog.

If you find any bugs don't hesitate to report them, but please read the instructions on how to post bugs first. Instructions for bug reporting can be found at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs.

Enjoy!

PS: Within the next seven days anyone asking when the binary for xyz will be ready will be banned and the post will be deleted. Such questions just distract the developers and packagers and don't do any good, so better not ask them...
Bugreports in the forums tend to get forgotten. You will get better results by following the guidelines and report them in the bugtracker.

RL intervenes; I'll be away from tomorrow morning. There's a problem I've encountered making the build (which you can read up very briefly mentioned in IRC), which I'll try to sort out when I return to the land with internet, Friday night at the earliest.

EDIT: I'm finally back. Please be super patient as I try to get it up, as it'll be another few days at least before I can actually work on it.
Take a breath.
