Wesnoth 1.2.3

Post by ivanovic »

Wesnoth 1.2.3 is out!

This is a bugfix release for 1.2 and it is compatible with the other 1.2 versions.

1.2.3 has several important bug fixes especially ion the area of savegames. Though they are not listed in the changelog, they are really included. Have a look at this thread for some more infos about the savegame bugs fixed with 1.2.3. Some other smaller things have changed, have a look at the changelog for the details.

You can check details at the changelog.

Downloads:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 2?download (65.0MB) md5sum

The (very tiny) xdelta is available already:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... a?download (0.4MB)

Check http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7034 for info on using xdelta.

The Windows binary is ready, too:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnot ... e?download (59.6MB)

And last but not least, the MacOSX binary, keep in mind that OSX 10.3+ is required:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnot ... g?download (full version, 79.2MB)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wesnot ... g?download (lite version (no artwork and music), 47.4MB)

As a fallback you can also get the sources from http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files through SourceForge to help us save bandwidth.

server.wesnoth.org is ready to be used for multiplayer games.

If you have any problems, follow the instructions given in this thread before reporting it as a bug. Instructions for bug reporting can be found at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs

The OpenBSD binary is already available at sf.net, the OpenSUSE binary can be found here. The Debian, ArkLinux and Gentoo packagers have been notified, too. That are all in my list of packagers to be notified, I hope their packages are ready soon.

Enjoy!

One annoying thing I found about 1.2.2 was once you've created a start-of-scenario save, you couldn't alter the scenario by editing the WML, which made scenario development harder. Has this been changed in 1.2.3?

Great! Those savegame bugs were driving me crazy.
What's this annoying thing that appears at the bottom of every one of my posts?

Thank you so much for the updating, guys. I'll have a cool time playing, waiting for my second children to be born. And then after, I guess I'll have some very, very, very much opportunities to help out in translating.

(this will be understood by every single fathers around here I guess)

If we had reports that this bug was also existant in 1.2.2, I might have waited with the release a little more. But since we had *no* report about it being this way in 1.2.2, too, noone did take care of it yet. Next time you should consider reporting bugs, too. ;)
For this one there only was a bugreport about 1.3.1, I just added 1.2.2 as affected version: https://gna.org/bugs/index.php?8698

On a different note, will a Wesnoth 1.2.4 be released? Don't mind either way, just that I've taken to downloading every other version of Wesnoth so I'm wondering whether it's worth skipping 1.2.3.

That probably depends on how significant the bugs are found in 1.2.3
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

Huge effort from translators or artists could also trigger a new release.

If the reason for skipping one version is download size you'll find 1.2.2 to 1.2.3 patch in my siggy that's just 3.7mb.

If you read the post just above yours you'll see that I've made such a patch... link to it is in my signature.

Thank you for this release! :) I hope that there will be a Wesnoth 1.2.4, too, because I don't want to download the development release yet and it will be great to see a new release (1.2.4) which (nearly) have no bugs :D

Yes, there will be 1.2.4 eventually. For example it will include the fix for the start-of-scenario save reloading the scenario again.
