Draft: Wesnoth 1.2 Release Notes
Moderator: Forum Moderators
Now we only need a good screenshot: http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.2/
Please also at least link to some simple changelog'ish (but still human-readable) list of changes between the two stable versions, too. Something like this:
I've probably forgotten some things from this, please add to it if you think of some general change that should be mentioned.
I know someone might see this as somewhat redundant, but it's more readable than a longer announcement/advertisement IMHO.
EDIT: Actually, nevermind this. I hadn't had a proper look at http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.2/ yet, which I think is good enough after all. Of course this can still be done, but I'm not sure anymore that there'd be any real benefit.
Code: Select all

instead of distributing a set amount of HP among all the wounded

cave, rockbound cave, impassable mountains
* Many balancing changes to unit stats

* New mainline campaigns: The South Guard, Two Brothers,
Under the Burning Suns

on their clothing, banners, etc)

* Lots of new sound effects
* All units now play sounds properly when hit, dying, attacking and missing
* Game engine
* A lot of new WML features for content creators
* Ability to write custom AI's in Python
I know someone might see this as somewhat redundant, but it's more readable than a longer announcement/advertisement IMHO.

That page says December 23 2006, is that the official date of the 1.2 release?ettin wrote:Now we only need a good screenshot: http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.2/
This date is in the future so there's room for unwanted delays left. There will never be strong gurantees about future release dates. It's just very likely that 1.2 will go out on that date. Likely, not sure.elricz wrote:That page says December 23 2006, is that the official date of the 1.2 release?

because of IIRWIIR, I don't think its a good idea to actually place a date there. it may disappoint if it is delayed.
Also, the rule has always been IIRWIIR, so when you place a date, its not exactly adhering to your own rules, (even though you can change them at any moment). so, next time, people may ask for a release date, pointing to this reference to say that the release date has been released before, so it should also be released next time too.

Why did the fish laugh? Because the sea weed.
It's a stable release so it's normal that we're rather sure a few days before and we need a date in the announcment for translators. If people complain that they want a fixed date next time, we'll happily ignore them, lock the threads or delete the posts.

A good example of how things may change. We really thought it would go out at this time back then... But in this case the date is in the text to translate which makes it even more important.VS wrote:Hehe, I remember hurrying with translations for 1.2 when the deadline was thought to be "beginning of June".torangan wrote:(...) we need a date in the announcment for translators.
