Can I change my nick in Wesnoth Multiplayer?

I want to change my nick in Multiplayer mode. Is it possible? How to do it?

As far as i know, when you click on "Multiplayer" in the main menu, there's your login on top of the windows that pops up. You just have to change it there.

The server doesn't enforce any kind of verification, other than asking for a password if the username matches a forum account. So you can change your name to pretty much anything you want.

Yes. I know I can login with any username. But the problem is when I play the multiplayer with a different name and I get disconnected suddenly, I got this issue:

Now, if your previous session remains online from the server’s point of view and you see your nick in the lobby, the match will continue to be controlled by that ghost session and nobody will really be able to do anything.

And I cannot login with the same name. Today, I played a map in which my username was STEAM_FOR_LINUX. I got disconnected then when I reconnected I tried to login with the same name but it showed that the nick is already in use. So I changed my name to STEAM_FOR_LINUXX. I connected to the same map which I was playing, and I asked the host to give me the control back but he said that STEAM_FOR_LINUX is online and still connected and told me your are not the guy because you have extra x in name STEAM_FOR_LINUX. He told me get out. I explained him but he didn't listen and kicked me.

Why this happen? I mean why the previous session remains on server even when the user disconnected?
