Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Runtime error

During watching or playing games on wesnoth 1.8.3 english version the game crashes to desktop with the following error...
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Battle For Wesnoth 1.8.3\wesnoth.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

this happens after some time of watching or playing, maybe around 20 minutes but it is random.

i have windows xp pro sp3 fully patched.

I have the same error. I use wesnoth 1.8.2, and I have WIndows Vista Home Premium. :hmm:

That error message doesn't tell anything about why it crashed. Paste content from the file stderr.txt in your wesnoth installation folder.

well that did not take long to crash, maybe 10 minutes into an observable game..

the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\ME\My Documents\my games\Wesnoth1.8\editor\maps" that wesnoth is looking for above exists but is empty.

i checked the file stdout.txt in the wesnoth directory it exists but is empty.

when i was playing the previous stable version of wesnoth (1.6) and all other versions before that i did not get this error.

i have heard talk in one game that others are experiencing this error as well and it was said maybe a person who disconnected got it instead of them leaving the game normally.

i have only one addon installed for wesnoth this time around and its the extended era, thats all.

i downloaded wesnoth 1.8.4 and observed a game and it crashed after a while with the same error message as above except the version number in the message was different. it picked up the 1 addon i installed with 1.8.3 extended era as thats kept in my documents.

sometimes i can watch a game for 40 minutes or more without the error sometimes not it is very random.

I got this error in 1.8.1 too, but using 1.9.1, it disappeared!

Ya i got this same problem.

i was using before 1.8.1 then i decided to install the lates one (1.8.5)
On 1.8.1 i had first this problem too .... but then the errors just didn't come anymore... which was very confusing because i don't really know what was the reason that why i didn't get those errors anymore. I dwonloaded some ddl files as my friend advised me to do.

i have microsoft visual studio 2008 express edition installed, does anyone else have any programming languages installed and are getting this error? though i only have a link for visual basic so im not sure if anything to do with C++ was installed.

It'd rather do good than bad I suppose...
I have MSVC C++ installed too and can't reproduce your problem with it however.
However, if you manage to install MSVC C++ and compile wesnoth (I'd advise the cmake version, it's less difficult) you might get a binary that doesn't suffer from the crash. Or, if it does, MSVC can supply good information about the crash...

ok im downloading c++ and sql server 2010 express edirtions from the microsoft site can you give detailed instructions as to what i need to do when installed?

1) should i try running it non compiled first and try and catch the error.

2) how do i compile it, the cmake way. wont compilling it mean i do not get very good error / bug reports.. i know with visual basic when compiled you dont get to step into the code to see the error.

when i open a project file (there are 4 i can find) it asks me to convert the project to visual studio 2010 as it was made in an earlier version of c++ will it work if i do this? also do i have to open all 4 project files and convert them seperately?

i have no idea about c++ maybe its not such a good idea i continue

I've posted a link somewhere here in the forum where vs 2008 is still downloadable. There's not yet any dev who's using vs 2010...forget it...(it will not only be very difficult - much more than that...)
