weird text

hi i recently downloaded and installed the battle for wesnoth (1.8.0)
(i have been playing the versions before this)

and in nearly every place where its suppose to be a text i just se signs like this []
(they look nearly like that just whitout the small space between)
so i guess theres somheting wrong

i have tryd to reinstall but i still have same problem
