there are 3 files in my ~/wesnoth/customBuilds113/share/wesnoth/fonts folder COPYING DejavuSans.ttf FreeSans.ttf
all my suggestion is OK and welcome to say NO:)

(Re)move your .wesnoth preferences directory and try again.

I guess there is no hope for this question but I will try also. I get the same error when I try to run the wesnoth editor but wesnoth runs fine. Here is the error:
:~$ /usr/games/wesnoth editor

could not initialize fonts

Ooops, just ignore me, I couldn't syntax my way out of a wet paper bag. I guess it helps if I type in the command correctly:
wesnoth_editor
It must be time for bed, yah that's it, I blame it all on staying up too late. Oh well, take a look at this and laugh, then call me a dumb whateveryou want, shake your head and I'll go crawl away.
