undead vs knalgans on castle hopping isle - lucky opponent
hello,
i played 2 vs 2 on castle hopping isle. i was on side 4 and i had undead, my opponent knalgans.
first, this map is for dwarves, especially the isle in the middle. this isle has a lot of hills and mountains where dwarves have strong position everywhere, and above all they can move easily. undead can't move more than 3 titles there. my teammate had loyalists and he had the same problem
i think some hills have to be removed here.
second, how do you deal against a lucky opponent? my stat was -8% for inflicted and +24% for taken (my damage inflicted and taken were both around 240). for my direct opponent, it was +22% and -2%. what to do with these stats? when your DA miss and their dwarf fighters hit many times than you.
nb : i don't complain about the rng, i just want to know how everybody does when they have bad luck : attack, defend, fly away
, steal villlages, resign
, ...
thanks

You might have a flawed strategy, and the easiest way to get help there is by posting a replay (it'll be in Wesnoth's /saves/ folder, called something like Castle_Hopping_Isle_Replay.gz).
About the hills and stuff, simply never stand where a dwarf can move onto them and attack you! On grass, forest, etc., they move fast but have rubbish defence. Then you can massacre them.
Also, if I'm fighting a lucky opponent, I generally wait for that luck to change. Sooner or later, it'll swing in your favour.
What are those stats, by the way? I don't understand them.

It's damage dealt and recieved, the "taken: +x%" for instance means that your enemy has dealt x% more damae than he should, or rather than he would if every attack with a 50% chance to hit actually was a yes-no-yes-no thing... In essence, the luck you/he had. You can check this stats by pressing "s" during a match.

hello,
of course, fighting against dwarves in mountains and hills is crazy. but look at the isle in the middle of the map : plenty of mountains and hills. if you don't fight there, your opponent occupy the middle and take many villages. you need to battle there, but against dwarves, the result is known.

I looked at the map, then I tried a 2v2 with the AI. Unfortunately that didn't work, because I'd forgotten to remove non-knalgans from the recruit list. (to simulate your foe)
I spammed ghosts. Ghosts can drain and have high resists, making them hard to get rid of in melee, and 50% resist makes it hard for thunderers to even hit them...and then they get hurt in return.
Ghosts also have 1MP everywhere except on water, so they're equal with dwarves there. Plus, dwarves can still be lured off their rocky terrain.
Also, if your enemy is concentrating on the middle island, just steal villages round the edges I guess. Use the keep at the end of the island, at the ford, to hold back the dwarves with some skeletons. Try and keep them in there, but don't actually go in there yourself.
