Hello.
It became necessary on the way making add - ons, so I added hair to your militiaman and made a female version.
If you do not mind, add it to your unit collection.

ok, I guess I'll revive this thread for a bit. so, I've started trying to draw human sprites. here's a sketch (I'd like to get some feedback about the proportions/shapes before I start coloring the sprite itself):

The body has a bit of a "beanbag" fealing to it. Instead of viewing the torso as one thing, try to see chest and hips as seperate.
The arms look like they come directly out of the body. You should make the shoulders more dominant.
The knees are bend, but the feet are nearly parallel. This potentially could work, but looks strange right now. I would have the feet face more outward. Also the legs have either too much bones or none at all. The thight goes to the right, the lower leg to the left and the shoe straight down.
Despite what I said it's a good attempt and it's always nice to see selfmade sprites rather than just frankensteined ones :D .
I made a picture with some corrections.

Just noticed, he's too tall for a wesnothian unit. He could easily be 4-8 pixels smaller.

Depends what level he is. Compared to some lvl2 units he's still too tall

Hmm. His legs are beginning to look too short compared to the torso.

I made this new version. He's now the same height as the sleepwalker's lvl2 pikeman. Depending on your personal preference you could shorten his neck 1 pixel by setting the head lower.

His body was looking quite thin, which is fine for proportion, but with the new colour you gave him he's starting to look more like a finished unit. So I made his torso a bit wider to compensate for armor.

applied simple skin shading (I didn't erase the pikeman, since I'll probably use his armor as a palette):

The skin could use another dark shade as outline, but you should work work on the other surfaces aswell before perfecting the skin.
You've propably already seen it, but zerovirus' shading tutorial might help.
