Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
A generic captain, similar to Exanites and Exanora posted earlier. One or two more of these are necessary for dialogues, so that there is no appearance of split-personality disorder.

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
Again, Doofus, it looks like some parts are rendered.. it's because of cell shading. I mean, when there is less detail, and when you use no textures at all, cell shading looks OK. But here, contrasting with the rest of the picture, cell shading (e.g. arm and front of his body) looks not that OK. I do not mean the picture is not good, since it is. I mean only that if you aim for perfection, you should probably reduce such small glitches too.
Or maybe it's just me. It would be interesting to see whether other have the same impression? Maybe I have just saw too many anime movies

I see what you mean now. Sometimes less is more, sometimes it is not. I guess something needs to be done about that arm.
(My goal is just acceptability, if I go for perfection, I'll never get this done.)
One more generic.

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
The male captain's left pupil seems to be bigger than the right one. Also, his pupils are too much covered by his eyelids which makes him look a bit sleepy imo.
I'm not sure whether it's intentional, but the female captain's shield misses the metal buttons the other one has.
Other than that: great!

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
That far eye on the male should be revised, I agree. I can also add something to the females shield, I guess it is a bit bland right now.
In the meantime, I've got an almost-not-quite-done portrait for Haryon, a subordinate of Dantaren (so they have thematic similarity). He is not holding the fire ruby thing, so he is not insane. I wanted to give him a defining characteristic, so he has a filmy blind eye. He's holding a pair of tongs.

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
Moving on... She's supposed to be a little scary, which she isn't right now. I was going to have her holding a severed head, but it wouldn't make sense for more than one scene. Maybe a banner like the orcs have or just showing a bloody blade would work (EDIT: tried the bloody blade). The filename also shows that I didn't get the face right, so I'll definitely be coming back to this one.

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
Her look positively tiny compared to the rest of her body. I'd say her thigh is probably bigger around than her waist.
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.
Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
Her waist is too small? It is seen from the side.
I did get some more work done, aside from that. I also gave the other one a banner of sorts.

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
tempted to try reducing the lights on the metal that are not real speculars (i suppose the light along the arm is not specular) and to increase the lights on the edges that should be speculars.
maybe you like.
also, on the shoulder, afaik speculars get smaller on curved surfaces (distorted reflection).

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
I was trying to put two light sources - the sky (or diffuse lighting) and a fire (hence the red). True, I got a bit sloppy on certain points. But I'm not sure it changes things much at game scale.homunculus wrote:tempted to try reducing the lights on the metal that are not real speculars (i suppose the light along the arm is not specular) and to increase the lights on the edges that should be speculars.

Moving on. This is a colleague of the winged woman in Bad Moon Rising & Trinity, but she is a worse character. The leading bad henchman in this campaign. So, I'm willing to spend a little more time on her.

Going for pseudo-roman. More or less.

Re: Art for Tales of the Setting Sun
The piece of armor in the shoulder seems to me too flat.
Especially, I find it lack the dark. I would reinforce the shadows in the middle of the image. I would put black where it is darker around the eyes (why red?).
