I'm working on an attack animation, this is what I've got so far. I know it needs help.

I think this is a slightly better version of that:

You're getting caught in a common mistake for beginning animators: only moving the active element. The whole body will move in response to all but the smallest movements, in order to maintain balance, create more force, etc. Also, it's a good idea to block the entire animation before you shade it, it makes it a LOT easier to fix any issues with the movement with a minimum amount of effort.

My pathetic attempt at making the animation from scratch, without the spear. The head is slightly edited. I know I need to get rid of a lot of semi-transparents.

Edit: I think I'm going to entirely redo this unit, switching around the spear and shield, so the shield is in the left hand. The other spear-wielding units are like that. Plus, that way I think I'll get more experience making stuff from scratch.

Hi,

This might be kinda of a late suggestion, but I liked the symbol on the shield, and couldn't resist to see how it would look with a team color. I came up with the attached image. It might not seem too much on the forums, but seeing it within the game under a color looked fairly good.

Another thing I noticed was that most mainline units have team colors on their spears, so I thought that maybe the Elvish Guard could use it as well, and so I uploaded the sprite with both the team color on the shield and on the spear.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion. The guard is very well done as-is. Good work. :D

Edit: The banner on the spear was taken from the spearman. Kinda half fast work, but it serves well enough as an example.

The cloth should go up to the tip on the spear, I reckon.

Meh. I'm not going to take over his sprite. I was just using it as a suggestion. Whatever is to be done with the sprite, he chooses. :P

Well, I switched the shield and sword around, so here is the (semi) rough draft.

There is a very common mistake of drawing hands (I sometimes make it myself, also).
But it attracts a lot of attention, because such injuries can happen.
The shoulder is not connected.

I'd suggest to draw the upper body wider, like broader shoulders (there should be some back muscle (lats) visible under armpit), and move the hand closer to the spine.
So that the shoulder will look more like part of the body.
It would make it look like the bones connect.
The bone is inside the upper arm, you know.
