Ishar Frankie

Post by Great_Mage_Atari »

Here I have a little project I have been working on. I would like some ideas for it, to make it way cooler. :D
I also need a name, so if any of you can give me some ideas, please do!

If you are to use any of these pics for any purpose, please give me credit for them (ONLY THE ADD ONS, SINCE THE MAGE ON A HORSE IS FROM ANOTHER USER) :geek:

I like your ishars holding a sword witha spear on his back launching afireball, but kindly beware of cluttering the forum with a gazillion threads. it has a way of attracting angry moderators.
how about giving him a bigger beard, or redoing his horse into a unicorn or something?
Guys I never thought I'd come back to this forum after 8 years this is wild

It looks a lot like the mainline Arch Mage, with a horse from a frankenpack.

Open source art is free for you to play with however you wish, but what makes you think you can call it yours?

The sprites are very cluttered and unreadable, which is not unusual for cut-and-paste frankensteins. Your choice of replacing team color with patches of bright low-contrast lime green doesn’t help.

On the other hand, seeing it's his avatar, it's possibly alright, for an avatar.
But for an unit, I'd use the one without weapons, with the crystal ball, and without fireball.
Ah, and I'm not sure why someone would actually USE this sprite, since it's just lime-recoloured Mage Dragoon Ishar from campaign Fate of a Princess. And since you insist so much on crediting, you don't even mention the source where you took original baseframe from. (Or at least mention you couldn't find the source, and say from which campaign it is).
But, if this project IS actually your new avatar, then it's okay, methinks.

I actually had to cut out a great Mage, paste it onto a paladins horse, swap color values (I do still have a Non-green one), and add in the rest

You must have done this very precisely, sir.

Black background: Ishar from FoaP. White background: selection taken from your PNGs.
No comments necessary, as I think, they match pixel to pixel.
GreatArch mage (you don't know which sprite you edited? Tsk, tsk...) for comparison, with interesting us leg region marked. (sadly for you, it isn't just simple frankensprite, and original artist spent some more time with it):

Please, if you use someone's sprite at least have enough dignity and credit original author.
And recoulor isn't some very big or prideful activity, too.

I got the idea from Ishar, yes, but I made the leg by hand. I do give most credit to the original author.

post 2
The embarassing truth behind it is that I did screw up the leg on the original character accidentaly, so I had to match it pixel to pixel just to get it back to where it was. I apologize for being unclear. I am not trying to take credit for others work, as it is rightfully theirs and I only modified it.

You've drawn that leg yourself? That's highly unlikely.

Look, they're exactly the same. Pixel to pixel. You've just recoloured them. There's nothing wrong with this, just stop lying, please. Do you think I get some pleasure of this silliness? Nah.
You say you give credit to original author... Where, exactly? I must've missed it.
Frankenspriting is NOT evil, you should just usually disclaim that those sprites are, in fact, frankensteined. You may give credit to original author, especially if you haven't done much changes to it. Just don't try to pass frankened works as from scratch works. Actually, I only cared because of your disclaimer: (otherwise it would be fine with me)

- since you seem to be so concerned with ownership of sprite, yet you don't even mention original author. That's just not cool.
Sorry if I've been too harsh.
UBEREDIT:Aw, crap. Ninja'd, and with apologies. Well, I think since you acknowledge art ownership everything's alright, then.

You misunderstand. I would like credit for the Frankensteined sprite, not Ishar. I do admit that it IS ISHAR. I was dumb and screwed up the sprite, so I had to paste on a mage and figure out how to do the leg, which, yes, is pixel to pixel (not to shabby if I do say so myself). All I did was graft on a sword, spear, and fireball. The credit for the mage riding a horse goes to it's ORIGINAL MAKER. All I did was fix my mistake, which is why I used the great mage in the first place.

As for the disclaimer I should have said only the top 2, not the bottom 2.
