Art for Encounter with the Forgotten
*Note to Viewer- Due to the fact I wasn't very good at all at the start, there is no half-decent art till page three.
These are the first animations I ever made. Critique please.

Re: Art for Encounter with the Forgotten
Robots are seen from side, not top-side ("camera" position is wrong).
Generally too few shades, everything looks cell shaded now.
The leg movement of the bigger robot is random and should be accompanied by movement of other parts of the body.

Animated avatars aren't allowed. I know I'm not a moderator, but I thought I might as well warn you.

On the art front: if you intend to use these in wesnoth, remember we don't have a west attack direction.

Aren't the missiles usually added on the unit sprite, not included in it?
I like the lift off animation. Altough it looks like it's jumping to the air, not hovering. I also like the phases of the space cannon fire (warmup, shoot, cooldown).

Re: Art for Encounter with the Forgotten
Look in-game at the angles which are available for shooting. The hex is not set out so units shoot horizontally, as yours do. Units only shoot vertically and diagonally, because of the way the hex is oriented.
Projectiles are animated separately from the units which shoot them by the game engine. You can make them together on the same file, but to use them in game, they need to be separate. It allows you to use one firing animation for multiple directions.

Re: Art for Encounter with the Forgotten
Hexes have a northwest side, a northeast side, a southwest side, a southeast side, a north side, and a south side. No west side. So your units that are attacking west/east aren't aiming at any units around them. For example:
Normally, a projectile (an arrow, a stone, a magic-missile... in your case the lightning-flash from the cannon) is a separate image that is placed on the screen momentarily and moves from the attacking unit to the defender. Not a part of the attacking unit's animation.
EDIT: TSI beat me to it while I was drawing up the example image, but I'm just posting what I have, anyway.

Re: Art for Encounter with the Forgotten
Wouldnt it work if you just reangled the spacecannon to face the enemy it is aiming at or raise it a bit higher so its in the right position?
Re: Art for Encounter with the Forgotten
No. Like the mystical 'create art' button, such a function for changing angles of a graphic doesn't magically get created. You have to make directional frames by yourself. Moving it higher won't help, it'll look like it's either flying or that it's strafing.

That's totally what the salesman where I bought my computer told me this extra button did. I wonder what it does. Let's s...Zerovirus wrote:the mystical 'create art' button, such a function ... doesn't magically get created.
