Here's another non-faction work.

I was distressed by the lack of HUGE, COMPENSATING-FOR-SOMETHING SWORDS in the default era, so I resolved to make someone with a two-handed sword. Not a BUSTER SWORD, mind you, I was going for more of a historical scottish claymore.

Something about the sword still makes me unhappy.

Wow, I like that one. One thing that bothers me about the sword is that it is not shaded to be behind his head.

His arm looks like it's in an awkward position. Looks like he's reaching back to catch it, not rest it on his shoulder. Or maybe it can also look like he's holding it like a javelin.
Other than that, pretty good job.

Don't give me too much credit, I frankensteined the head and legs.

Here's an improvement of the Troubadour's fireball.

EDIT: and the updated Landsknecht.

Then don't do frankensteners. Make your own entire sprite! I think it's more productive

I'd beg to differ on that score. For an experienced artist, it may be easier to create from scratch. For the less experienced, frankensteining is DEFINITELY the way to go. Heck, even the best of us (and I don't claim to be that) do it some of the time - in particular, I often find it easier to nick some feet or a head from somewhere than to scratch draw difficult parts.

I find it a particularly useful technique for maintaining a consistent look across a faction - if something distinctive can be maintained such as a helm, piece of armour, shield etc, it can be useful for this.

The Dwarvish Scout line, for instance, are more-or-less frankensteined from the Thunderer base. They're simply done carefully, slowly, and making sure that all the new bits look distinct.

Your landsknecht is good - however, the torso and thighs feel just a little short - i think he's shading towards the tall end of dwarf, rather than the short end of human.

I'm completely honest when I say I loves TSI's knowlegde. Personally I like so much to learn from sprites made for others, but never to copy them. But this is only a personal decision. Everybody have his own way to learn!

I made a few armored versions.
I realize the armor is a little dark, but I like it that way personally.
I included an un-helmeted version.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: here's one more.
EDIT 2: Currently leaning towards Hounskull/Sallet.

Second one for me, It's looks awesome.
Last one looks a tad boring,
Third one's good, but not as good as the second one.
My spritework can be seen here.

I like more with any of the helmets you drawed, but as TSI says: "the torso and thighs feel just a little short"....

Wow, these are really cool sprites! :) Only thing is wouldn't the helmets have stronger highlights, being metal?

These are great! I see you added in new helmets too. The Landsknecht's helmet looks maybe just a tad too skeletalish.

Just popped in to say I think these are awesome :). *observes for any pieces he can steal* I think the great helm, the shading on the top makes it appear like it's slanted upwards rather then just flat and shiny. I personally like the armet or the great helm. The sallet looks a little to much like batman in my opinion. I really like that sword though, I just might use it, depending on what my next faction is gonna be (guess I'm gonna have to start thinking about that eh?) heh, anyway, great job.

Unarmored version was 42 pixels tall, and the armored version is now 43, because I extended the legs (thighs) 1 pixel.

I think the body looked short in the unarmored version because his hair is a little poofy.

I'll keep considering, but the armored version looks fine to me...

Here's an attempted fix of the Great Helm version.
