Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Still doesn't look quite right to me. I tried to mess around with it, not sure if it looks better or not though:
I have to say, I really like the work here. I think my only personal issue is the way the breastplate comes to a point, but that's still realistic, I just wouldn't like it, so it's not really a problem.

Mirion: Thanks, that does look a little better as far as the roundness of the head goes, but I prefer the single light reflection, myself.
Here's another work: A falconet, or early cannon, ca. 14th-15th Century.
EDIT: brighter cannon version added.

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
the cannon is still quite dark, it took a bit to tell what end was the front.
Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Nice concept. I agree that it is still a bit too dark and think making it brighter but with dark outlines will help. The wood parts could use either more contrast or more outline. Sprites are kind of cartoon-like and symbolic.

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Well here's my current block preliminary for the attack motion of the Landsknecht.
It's pretty horrible, but i'm kind of tired of working on it.
EDIT: okay, I lied, here's a new version with another frame.
The numbers on the filename refer to the time in-between the frames: i'm not sure which version looks quite right, myself.

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Looks like it's tilting forward a bit.
Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Okay, here's two new versions of the falconet.
I increased the brightness and contrast on the barrel and wooden part of the cannon, and darkened the outlines for the bright version of the cannon.
I personally like the dark cannon version more, but what do you guys think?

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Checkered pattern isn't really wood pattern. The top of barrels are generally the same as the sides, wooden planks side by side.

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
I understand that; The planks are meant to look like they're running diagonally. I may change this if that's not the way people are perceiving it.Frogger5 wrote:Checkered pattern isn't really wood pattern. The top of barrels are generally the same as the sides, wooden planks side by side.

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
From googling barrel, I can see that the planks aren't quite as narrow as you'd need to make them checkered, hence my critique

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Your barrel has only been getting brighter. You need more contrast to convey a round shape. I agree with Frogger that the pixeling shouldn't be checkered, it looks akward*.

Re: Setanesh Faction (Art Thread)
Here's the current status of the entire faction. Red squares are units left yet to be made.
