it's hard to judge if the new sorum'tars are better. They're just more human and..massive perhaps. The old ones on the other hand look more evil and beastly, less human. Well i don't know the whole of your project but i'd say both versions could be used for something. You might want to play around more with the gray part of his belly line, probably either reduce, expand or feather it more so it colouristically fits more to the remainder of those scales.
Like cats? I've made a whole faction of them to kick ass with!

I'm not sure what you're aiming for with the new Sorum'tar, but the new ones feel a little washed out to me...maybe you could bring back the dark capes?

And, I don't even need to say it, that ice dragon looks badass ;)

The Ice Maiden seems to need more darker tones, especially her robes.

For some reason the ice crystals on the maiden and the earlier ice dragon look more organic in nature than real ice does.

:augh: Well, they are organic creatures, granted. But a more inorganic crystal look IMHO looks better.

Sorum'tar from level 1 up

Sorum'tar's design is based on the old sprites, which arguably look better.

The level 1 is definitely an improvement. The level 3 might need some better shading. It doesn't look as good as the other two you made. The cloak looks fake.

I prefer the old ones, apart from the level 1.

I haven't abandoned these sprites and made some progress with them. I'm posting them though the Ice maiden is said to look different because of background reasons and Espreon is considering changing Sorum'tar as well.

You are doing something exactly right.
I don't know what, so I can't offer much help, but...

If the character in a red kimono is supposed to be a woman, her breasts are humongous. That is, in a bad way. Also, it could be argued that her head is a bit too small compared to Wesnoth standards, but I won't go into that - the main thing here is her chest, which has to be made smaller if you want to be serious with these. (:

The breast are big, for Wesnoth standards, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. A world full of moderately-breasted women is as artificial as one full of D-cups. Extremes happen in nature.
