Terrain codes

Post by Vilebeggar »

So is there like a list of the terrain codes of the map you know like (^Eb, ^Ebn) and what not. I'm trying to make ambushed units like those in heir to the throne scenario crossroads. I kind of know whats going on but the terrain codes are a bit confusing.

One example about code matching – with Gg^Ebn
G*^Eb* matches, both the Eb and Ebn ones
*^Ebn matches, also on the beach
Gg^*matches. also matches with villages.
G* matches not
* This one is an exception and doesn't follow the same logic, don't use it. IIRC it can be written as *^*
Gg^E*n no idea what it does, but not what you expect it to do.
Try out the dark board theme.

1. Place the hills
2. Hold the shift key while placing the forests

There's a Wiki page with editor hints somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment.

The same way you can place other overlay terrains (e.g. villages or bridges) disregarding their default base.

https://wiki.wesnoth.org/MapEditor . I added a link to it from BuildingMaps (which is itself linked from Create on the top bar) but that's the only link to that page right now, there may be other pages that should link to that one, or forum threads...

This tip should be a note in the editor itself somewhere. It's fine that there's a wiki page, but that's not where I would think to look for help. Actually, I used to just assume it was impossible, so I wasn't looking for help in the first place. (Actually, there should just be a page in the regular Wesnoth help system about using the editor.)
