No, because

1. It won't take an empty ($) string.
2. I want the discoverER (the guard) to do the talking.
3. This is 1.8- we use unit, not unit.id now.

EDIT: Forget it, I'm not worrying about that. I id'ed about 16 guards (all on bell towers) then just decided, "what the hey, I'll just pick a random one."

Thanks to all who helped.

Here is a folder with my campaign in it, Can I have some honest answers about who would actually play/enjoy this scenario/campaign? (There will be recruiting/major battles in it, just not the first scenario)

EDIT: tried that, Ceres, didn't work.

so, use 'speaker=second_unit'
EDIT: Maybe it's because of
[filter_second]
id=unit
[/filter_second]

No, you don't use filter for messages.

that variable is automatically stored, it will never be empty during that event.
bigkahuna wrote:2. I want the discoverER (the guard) to do the talking.
ok, so use $second_unit.id
bigkahuna wrote:3. This is 1.8- we use unit, not unit.id now.
the wiki wrote:speaker: an alternative to standard unit filter. You may specify as the value of the speaker attribute a unit id or any of the following special values:
* narrator: the dialog box is displayed without a caption for the unit speaking or a unit image
* unit: the primary unit for the event is speaking
* second_unit: the secondary unit for the event is speaking
$unit.id/$second_unit.id is a variable containing the id of a unit, so 'speaker' will take that as a valid value.
