The main feature is a new experimental faction (once it was a part of the Aurora Empire but now it's an autonomy allied with the Sky Kingdom):

The first one of a new experimental factions.
“Magic and technology.”
Humans are totally average.
There are a pack of battle machines and buildings, mixed tactics, high unit prices and ranged elemental attacks.
Officers are replaced with combat engineers.
There are decent mages who can boost each other.

We plan to add the next one experimental faction (it's 70% done) and make a port to "Battle for Wesnoth" 1.14
Frankly, I didn't like the 1.14 branch - yes, it's modern, updated and improved, but a magnificent old-fashion style is gone. It's sad but it can't be helped - gamers follow new releases.

addon server for 1.10 still accepts uploads ;)
author of: Altered Era/Ruleset (AKA "Altera"), latest version is on add-ons servers for BfW 1.16 and 1.14, latest version also still supports BfW 1.12 and 1.10, 1.10 server is stuck with older buggy version)

We planned release of version 0.9.9.4 for the New Year holidays but we can't do it in time - we have not enough free time for now.
The new seventh faction ready: materials - 100%, in game - 30%
Balance fixes ready - 30%
Port to 1.14 ready - haven't started yet

We don't know even approximal release date of version 0.9.9.4 for now.

Just discovered this spectactular era recently. Amazing art and a very different gameplay. The flying units were a gotcha until I realized you have to counter them with special recruits. Either flying themselves or with non ground attacks (i.e. Flak :) ). Also the ability to recruit level 4's takes some getting used to. Especially when you may have a level 1 leader! The trick is to lead with the biggest recruit it seems and only build the small ones when out of $. It might be better to save up though and buy the level 3/4's though. Need to experiment further.

Naturally they don't mix well with mainline units (some scenarios spawn them so they can meet) since mainline doesn't respect flying units for example. On 6p Twister Desert the spawned Serpents and Wolves ended up eating the AoW leaders hehehe. Noticed also that the lesser poison can't be cured at an oasis, oversight or intentional?

Speaking of the lesser poison it might have a bug because it seems to always do damage 3 times to each unit. That's up to 12 while the description says 4. I tried commenting out mode=append in the store unit tag but that didn't change it.

Oh and found a few broken image/sound links (typos like lighting.ogg and shocker_electrical (needs electric) and some halos looking for flame_burst but needing burst_flame, etc.) but those were easily fixed.

Anyways, this is a great alternative to regular wesnoth play.
