Re: Looking for coder: Hell faction

Post by battlestar »

Thanks, I'll add that to the main.

Things left to complete:
-New unit as non-flying upgrade of Hell Fiend
-Abilities
-Unit descriptions
-Race descriptions
-Balancing

While you are working on the abilities I'll make the art for the new unit then the descriptions.

Update: work in progress sprite, having a hard time deciding on a pose. And could you add these two defense frames to the codes? Thanks. How are the abilities coming along?

Yeah, I'll add the defense frames.

The abilities are coming along very slowly-- should be done by the end of the break. Allurement's giving me headaches; :annoyed: I'm working on it, though.

Yeah it's not an easy one to do. I should have the new unit sprite ready sometime this week.

Oh yeah, could you add the ice demon/frost demon/cerberus missile projectiles too? I have no idea how to do those. Ice missile from core would fit the ice/frost demons and fire breath for the cerberus. Thanks!

Races
Demons include a variety of humanoid creatures including red-skins, blue-skins, and shadow-walkers. Demons can be relatively large, and most are padded with walls of muscles. Their durable physique is a prerequisite to surviving in the hellish environment of their home domains. Their bulk somewhat limits their movement and agility, rendering them easy targets to attackers. However, their heavy blows allow them to quickly dominate anyone who dare to challenge them.

Despite brutish nature of demons, they are also suspected to be highly intelligent. Historically, anyone who enters into a contract with a demon would soon find themselves swindled. Demons are also inherently magical, with vulnerability to arcane attacks and natural alignments to the elements. Red-skins are resistant to flames but vulnerable to frost, while blue-skins are resistant to frost but vulnerable to flames.

Society
According to ancient scrolls, it appears that the social structure of demons is very simple. Ones with more power commands over their weaker peers. Hence, demons frequently challenge each another in deadly combats. The winners would rise in social standing, while the losers are turned to minced meat to feed hell hounds. At the apex of the demonic society are the demon kings. They are owners of untold powers and legions of demonic armies.

Geography
Very little is known about the hellish realms. While many poets romanticized about this mysterious world, many mages sought to study it. Some were mad enough to summon portals and enter into the demonic world, but none have ever returned to tell their tales.
She-Devils are demons in scantly-clad female bodies. They are as dangerous as they are alluring, even the most battle hardened men would be unwilling to attack such beauties with their full strength. She-devils are also winged and agile, hence they often play the role of scouts and spies.

Contrary to popular belief, she-devils are genderless. Their seductive appearance evolved to aid their seductive ways. With their appearance and charming ways, she-devils can easily lead men to eternal damnation.

Society
She-Devils are organized in oligarchical covens. Each coven swears loyalty to a demon king for a limited time, before moving onto a new king to serve. In demonic society, she-devils generally have low standings. They are seen as lacking loyalty and also lacking the courage to stand against their enemies.

Geography
Very little is known about the hellish realms. While many poets romanticized about this mysterious world, many mages sought to study it. Some were mad enough to summon portals and enter into the demonic world, but none have ever returned to tell their tales.
Djinni are ancient fire elementals in service of demons. A djinn's upper body is humanoid, a nearly weightless form entirely composed of plasma. The body rides on a cloud of pure magical essence, allowing them to float over the landscape. It also gives them immunity over drain, poison, and plague attacks. Like fire, djinni have volatile tempers. They will stop at nothing to burn their enemies to a crisp.

Ancient magi texts speculated that djinni are birthed from the Primordial Flame, the first flame since the formation of the world. Hence, djinni wield powerful fire magic. In addition, they are among the few who can stand the heat of burning lava. However, djinni are extraordinarily vulnerable to cold, which causes their physical body to cool into gas and disperse. When a djinn is mortally wounded, its spirit would also disperse in a brilliant flash. The dispersed djinn essence would regather over the next millenia, granting it rebirth.

Being magic itself, djinni do not require food or sleep. However, they often slumber until their masters require their services.

Society
Most djinni are bound to demon king Daltaion. Other djinni rarely interact with one another, and they are dispersed in service of several other demon kings. Djinni had a glorious society in ancient times, but it has been long destroyed by their encounter with demons.

Geography
Djinni no longer have claim to any realms. They roam and slumber among all things, only the most potent magical barriers could forbid their entry.
Blade units
Imps are weaklings among demons. In demonic society, they are lowest of the low. They are often pushed to the front of battle formations as cannon fodders. Only those who survive the harsh odds to adulthood would finally be accepted as a true demon.

Despite their small size, imps wield over-sized scythes to battle their foes. Though low quality weapons are given to imps, they are still fearsome killing tools.
Generic demons are among most common creatures in hellic realms. Slow and clumsy, demons depend on their durability and strength to crush their enemies. Demons are notorious for their brutalities, often resorting to killings as a mean of entertainment.
Blade Demons form the backbone of demonic forces. They are selected demons who are skilled with the scythe. These powerful fighters are driven by their blood-lust and savagery. Nothing makes them more happy than to slice their enemies limb from limb on the battlefield.
Few seasoned blade demons are talented enough to become a slayer demon. A slayer demon's skill with scythe is rivaled only by another slayer demon. These deadly killers are elite warriors in service of demon kings, and they often serve as demon kings' personal guards.
Frost units
Frost demons are dwellers of hell's Abyss. With their toughened bodies, they are well adapted to the darkness and the frigid environments. Frost demons are not as aggressive as their red-skinned counterparts, but their skills in ice hurling are highly developed. The layer of frost on a frost demon's back protects it from harm and acts as a camouflage.
Ice demons are originally weaker frost demons who were forced to live in the deepest part of the Abyss. Only a lucky few who were not frozen to death eventually grow accustomed to such stabbing cold. Tough ice chunks grow naturally on the backs of ice demons, and they acts both as protection and a source of projectiles for throwing. If an ice demon remains still, it would appear as if nothing more than a chunk of ice.
Dark units
Where there is light, there is shadow. Where there is shadow, demons lurk. The shadow demons wear shrouds of darkness, pushing back light wherever they go. Any unlucky man who stands in their path would find themselves snared by the shadow.
Greater shadow demons name themselves dark patriarchs. Surrounding them are masses of murkiness which neither moonlight nor sunlight can penetrate.
Fiend units
Fiends attack with excruciating whip blows. Each fiend is consumed by hatred of all things, including themselves. Each fiend is covered with scars and flesh wounds that it inflicted upon itself. The only way to prevent fiends from self-harm is to unleash them upon their enemies. Once a demon king said: and if they aren't a menance, well they're no fiends of mine. S-S-S-S-A-A-A-A-F-F-F-F-E-E-E-E...
Hell fiends are enbodiments of hatred itself. Like fiends, hell fiends take pleasure in sadistic torture of its preys and themselves. Only gore and screams could bring smile to a hell fiend's face, a grin with too many knife-like teeth. A hell fiend's whip is dripping wet with deadly poison, to add to their victims' suffering.
Only those with countless atrocious acts are allowed to call themselves pit champions. They are the most ruthless of hell fiends, and they are devoted only to the most cruel ways of butchery. In battle, being pierced and sliced by their enemies give pit lords great sadistic pleasure, and pit lords' regenerative ability grants them prolonged enjoyment.
Abyss lords are fiends with the rare potential to become a devil. Surpassed in violence only by devils and demon kings, the abyss lords are formidable opponents in battle. Having grown wings, abyss lords are able to fly into otherwise unreachable regions to spread their spite.
Devils are rare of the rare among demons, and they reign supreme in power second only to demon kings. Besides the torturing flogger, devils also carry a trident. The hell trident is a symbol of the devil's supremacy over other demons. Devils are gigantic beings with wing span of a dragon. A devil's head and shoulder is crowded with horns, protruding in every direction. Any living being in the presence of a devil would feel the intense malevolence it radiates, and the terror with it. Anyone who has seen a devil's grin is sure to be mad with fear.
Djinn units
Magical servants are minor djinni enslaved by demons. Being composed of plasma, the fists of magical servants can burn through flesh and bone. When magical servants attack, their fists are guided by magic towards their enemies. Without free will, magical servants will answer to their masters' every whim.
Jinni are potent magical beings whose humanoid body is composed of heated plasma. Like all djinni, jinni attack with uncanny accuracy as they are guided by their inner magic. Jinni have long befriended mortals before their souls became bounded to the demon kind. Now Jinni serve the evil that seeks to wreak havoc upon the world.
Ifriti are powerful djinni whose bodies are composed of thick plasma soup. Most ifriti reside near heat sources, such as burning forests and volcano ridges. Like other djinni, ifriti serve their masters with absolute devotion until his vital essence is utterly drained. When attacking, fists of an ifrit burn red-hot, gaining a temperature capable of melting through even the thickest plate armor.
Inferno flares are ifriti whose plasma body is ignited by hellfire. Their body heat is enough to make magma boil. When an inferno flare is awakened inside a volcano, the volcano is sure to burst. With scorching personalities, inferno flares are extremely aggressive. They often make a sport of burning villages to the ground and turning their enemies to dust. Inferno flares also enjoy the company of other flame-based creatures, as well as setting other creatures on fire. Despite their volatile nature, even inferno flares are bound to their masters and have no choice but to serve. Inferno flares are some of the most powerful servants a demon king could hope for. Indeed, their flaming swords could cut through steel as if it were butter.
Hound units
Hell hounds are ferocious animals that thrive in the fiery pits of inferno. The bite of a hell hound is augmented with searing heat. It only takes a few seconds for raw meats to become cooked in the jaw of a hell hound. Once the meat is cooked, it must be swallowed quickly before it is reduced to ash.

Hell hounds often hunt in small and well organized packs that often includes one or several cerberus. Persistence and cunning makes hell hounds effective hunters, capable of killing even the largest of demonic beasts. During a hunt, the first step is to surround the prey. Then, one or a few of the hounds would initiate the attack by charging the victim. The spearhead attackers would clining onto the prey and bring it off balance. Once the prey falls to the ground, the rest of the pack would unleash a flurry of relentless attacks until the prey is shredded to minced bits. Hence, even domesticated hell hounds would only eat grounded meat when they are fed with the losers from duels between demons.
Cerberus are mutated hell hounds with three heads. Each head sports a bite more vicious than any hell hound could. When a cerberus faces several opponents, it will leap at multiple targets because its three heads often disagree on who to attack. With three brains, cerberus are very intelligent. They are able to learn quickly from their battle encounters.

Cerberus hunt well with hell hounds packs. However, unlike hell hounds, cerberus would migrate to a different pack after each hunt. Given the prowess of cerberus, they are readily welcomed into hell hound packs.
She devil units
Lilins are she-devils guised as minxy women. In addition to their charms, lilins exude pheromones that would confuse even non-humanoid males. Though lilins enjoy inflicting suffering on their victims, they prefer to use their cunning and avoid direct confrontation. Lilins are hopelessly weak in open-combat, and their large wings allow them to quickly flee dangerous situations. They also utilize their superb agility to slip through enemy lines with ease.
Succubi are stunningly beautiful. With a single kiss, they can make any man fall madly in love with them. No man is moral enough to resist temptations from a succubus. Once a succubus has a man's heart, it will have absolute control over his actions. A man under a succubus' spell would attack even his closest friends and long-time comrades.

Like lilins, succubi prefer to backstab their foes and avoid frontal-conflicts. However, those who confront a succubus would be surprised by her skills in combat.
Gorgons are she-devils who chose to give up their glamourous looks in exchange for pestilent powers. Gorgons have live snakes for hair, green scaly skin, withered wings and serpentine tail. The gaze of a gorgon is capable of turning people into stone. Luckily for the victims, the petrification is only temporary. However, in the face of a demonic onslaught, it may be better to simply stay petrified.
Codes rewritten to match 1.10 and pretty much done, abilities by 8680, now testing.

Even though the faction is uploaded, with code completed, the faction still needs to be balanced against standard faction(s). I'm inexperienced in this regard, anyone interested to help?

Hi Battlestar. I would like to notice you that I downloaded your campaign and recently updated it to 1.01, but I noticed at least two serious issues that you should look into before the next release :
* The first and most urgent one is that the units have id that are relatively common in the UMC community. This causes a bunch of incompatibility issues with other add-ons and will cause OoS errors in multiplayer if someone has one of these other add-ons installed. To prevent this, I suggest you simply add an unique qualifier to the id of all units in the faction. For example, you could add _BS to the end of all units' id or Hellish Demons_ at its start. I know this will make old savegames incompatibles with the update, but it is the only solution.
* The second is that the units' textdomain is wrongly put. In fact, your era doesn't even have its own textdomain currently. For one thing, make one, copying the way it is done in the _main.cfg file of other add-ons if you need to. You could then read this guideline and follow it. This will allow other people to translate your add-on. This issue is not as outstanding as the first one as the add-on doesn't need it to be 100% playable, and it will not create issues with old save files. It is still an improvement, though.

Good suggestions, uploaded with updated id's for not just units but also movement types, races, abilities, etc. Now version 1.0.2 for this change. Will do textdomain in the future as well. Thanks
