Seer faction

Post by Darker_Dreams »

One of the several ideas percolating in my fevered brain is for a human/gypsy/fortuneteller faction. It's part of a larger era/campaign I want to do, but it seems like one of the more amusing places to start. I'll be working on it as I can, and as I develop the skills, but I figured I'd put out what I had so far.

The plan is thus;
The units will all possess the same one of either the smallfoot or elusivefoot move/resist type and the "Human" race. They will all possess a 0/1 ranged attack called "second sight" which increases their def% (thus making them slightly more resistant to ranged attack). Many (most) should also have a variation on this "ability" (not able to claim towns).

Code: Select all

Advancement tree;
lvl0                lvl1               lvl2              lvl3                  lvl4
                                                    /      Sibyl
Fortuneteller - Soothsayer -      Wisdom          -      Matriarch
                  \                                \      Crone          -   Hag
                   \ Doomseer - Dark Sibyl - Oracle of Woe - Prophet of Despair

That's enough for now. I've got more though, including both art I've seen that indicates concepts (though it's all other peoples and not open license) and a whole pile of fluff (like how doomseers rip out their eyes because the visions they see drive them nutty, and how crones are generally the embittered losers of power struggles to gain a Matriarch position while Sybils take the high-road out of those struggles...)

Kinda reminds me of my idea for the fallen Celestials.

Yeah, I saw that. Parallel evolution from similar imagery.

Sorry guys, I've used the lvl abbreviation for so long I didn't even think about it being confusing.

That said, I need to go back and do some editing of their stat-blocks, mostly because the Crone should be Fearless, a couple need to have their ZoCs amputated (say, everything lvl 2 and under), and a couple need Skirmish that didn't get it the first time (Crone, Hag, maybe Sibyl).

Here's some art that "feels" right. (some is by luis royo... which is to say NSFW)

Crone/Hag
evil queen Really, any hag/wicked witch/old woman version of the evil queen works.
it's a good concept, but really, she looks to friendly for this.

The Doomseer line;
Doomseer? Royo does beautiful work. Obviously (aside from the fact all these images are copywrited), it's hard to translate that into a sprite... but damn.
Dark Sybil? I like the feel, and the lack of eyes.
Oracle?
Prophet ok, maybe not. But, there are certain units in BfW that people should shudder when they appear on the battlefield, just because of the way they look. Dragons (true dragons, not drakes) liches... and this thing. Really, the name Prophet of DOOM seemed hokey, but when this sprite is done that's what people should be thinking.

Wisdom
baisc, classic

Matriarch
less the sorcerous "doom ray"

Sybil
All hail Luis Royo
MSFW
MSFW
NSFW
VNSFW

The fortuneteller and soothsayer should be any good image off a search for Gypsy.

This code is modified from some copy in a file I found around here called ravens_utils. I can't seem to find the thread I got it out of to link to it. If someone knows right off I'd do so.

obviously, if someone sees something wackily out of place, let me know.

Code: Select all

[attack]
        name=Second_Sight
        description=_"Second Sight"
        icon=attacks/second_sight.png
        type=sight
        range=ranged
        damage=0
        number=0
        attack_weight=0
        [specials]
[chance_to_hit]
id=Vision
name= _ "Second Sight"
description= _ "Second Sight:
While there is wisdom in using ranged attacks to remain beyond the reach of many seers, it also relies upon a cast chance against individuals who can see many possibilities before any come true. When the Seer uses their Second Sight ranged attacks against them suffer -25%."
add=-25
cumulative=no
apply_to=opponent
active_on=defense
[/chance_to_hit]
[chance_to_hit]
id=harmless
name= _ ""
value=0
cumulative=no
apply_to=self
[/chance_to_hit]
        [/specials]
    [/attack]

Unfortunately, it seems to require that a minimum damage of 1 exist, which looks a little weird. If there's a reasonable workaround I'd appriciate knowing that too.

edit-updated the Second Sight code.

update;
filler art recolored/frankenstined/etc (made) for the Fortuneteller->matriarch line.
much of those units are coded (and descriptions written), except that I'm about stumped on how to actually assemble the WML for disallowing a unit to claim villages.
