F8's SECOND map, open for balancing.

here's my second map. named "death star". it's supposed to look like one of those "ninja stars" (shurikans?) but with 6 points rather than 4. meant to be played FFA or 3v3, with players every other point. (122112) gold is 100, 70% exp, and 3 gpv due to the low number of villages. here is the map:

I find it incredibly annoying when I leave this out for an entire day and don't get even one comment. I can't say enough, "STATE YOUR MIND, STATE HOW YOU FEEL, WHAT CAN BE CHANGED?" :(

Having a few more central villages and slightly wider points on the star might be nice, as it is the points are almost too easy to defend, especially as there aren't many villages out in the middle to be used against the people who just hide away. I personally haven't found a whole lot of success with these types of maps, they generally wind up becoming rather dull fairly fast...

another version, only 5 min after the second one: this makes the passageways thicker, allowing the "points" to be held with more difficulty. Changed player arrangement via numbers.

Download Roze's maps, in the pack there is a map with a similar idea to this called whirlwind. Roze is an excellent map maker and you should look at some of his maps to learn how to make aesthetically appealing maps that are still balanced, which is what you seem to be trying to do, also think about putting all your maps in one thread to make everyone's lives easier.

I've never thought that the Roze maps were particularly well balanced; last time I checked was two or three months ago though, so maybe they've improved.

F8, the chasm placement is a bit much in my opinion. It'd be good to downsize or move them (I'd opt for downsizing).

Another thing, and this is only a matter of personal taste: I've always found illuminated cave terrain to be nonsensical on non-campaign maps (it only really fits for underground campaign levels). Is there supposed to be some big flashlight shining down on those hexes, while the rest of the map experiences a regular day cycle? It's also not as though those hexes are even particularly good for lawful units - most of the time, they'll have bad defense there and will be easy targets.

I prefer that corner to remain hidden /

I've never had any [major] problems with Roze's maps, you're right about the balance though, they're aren't as balanced as the ones from mainline, but they are an excellent starting point.

I just took a look at them again, out of curiosity-

They're very snowflakish, which is kind of interesting at first glance....My impression though is that this would wear off rather quickly and you'd be left with pretty bland games.

As for the balance of the 2ps though- Really terrible. There's no understanding of player one advantage there whatsoever.

Understandable comments, but I chose roze's maps as examples because I thought they would be the most relevant to F8, otherwise I would of just pointed him to the map digest page.
