instead the lobby is filled with people who:

-leaves right after the game starts
-leaves in the middle of the game
-leaves when they are losing
I've had to leave before its unlucky but [censored] happans... real life unfortuantly controls wesnoth not the other way around
-insults other players
-spams the map with millions of labels
-sets the starting gold to 1000
insults arnt cool but i dunno easy to "clear text"

spaming the map with labels right click clear labels they spent 4 min being annoying you you pwn them with one lclick sides it can be funny sometimes

and 1k gold (or 800 as now is the case) can be fun to play on!

-takes 30 minutes per turn
timer much?

makes 6 player games on HUGE maps
whats wrong with this if you have a lot of time to burn?

Massive amounts of gold is not fun because it justs makes the game go stupid since it just means you have to now kill 100 units with your 100 units instead of the usual 7-10 vs 7-10. Same amount of strategy with more time involved.

The strategy is not the same. You end up with many more blockade situations where units line up against each other, walling off parts of the map by sheer numbers.

I suspect that this rather reduces the strategy, on the whole.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

I rather like large number of units because it greatly reduces the randomness.

It's good for dwarves and bad for drakes.

I find that there are too many people who consider banter/humor with labels to spam are far too annoying. I may not have played for a while, but even months ago they were everywhere, and were the bane of my existence.

Seriously, some of the funniest things i have seen were labels.

Like the series of them describing a fight between me and yogi bear after I tried to burn a forest that contained a wose.

And I feel that if you lose four full hp elvish heroes in a row in on e turn to my single halberdier, (leader in fact) that I get a least on label to jokingly mock you with.

I refuse to take more than 4 minutes per turn, usually closer to one.
Oh no look out its a ray gun.
You should move to avoid the rays
the rays are coming out of the gun
if you are hit by the rays
you will be shot by the rays
the rays are fast so you should be fast to
can you win against the fast rays from the gun?

My friend and I love labels. We name interesting portions of a map, sites of major (or humorous) battles, point out particularly annoying units, and the like. Things like....

Ye Gurt Big Swamp
Dear God, what is that thing?
Fangorn Squared

But we usually only play each other, so it doesn't bother anyone else.

Names are fun, too. It's a rare game that doesn't feature a unit named Chuck Norris or MacGuyver.

... is there something that can be done about this?

can we have ratings for players?
For Example:

/stat Cuddlefish

Disconnected - 6
Games Resigned - 2
Games Won - 5
Longest Turn - 5 minutes and 42 seconds
Shortest Turn - 3 seconds
# of games played - 10
etc...

This way we can kick the bad players immediately...

Cuddlefish: try teaching and coaching your fellow players to act more responsibly, if that's what you want, instead of complaining about it. You don't realize it, but that's exactly the kind of thing that's contributing to your problem.
